Hello CatByte,
looks like things are back to normal. Internet Exp 8.0 seems to be acting funny. Sometimes when I click on the Icon from the desktop it will start to open and then it just stalls and never loads. When this happens I have to X out and try to open again, at this time it will ask if I would like to restore a prev session or go to my home page at this point it will load however it just seems slower then it was. All other function on the PC are lighting fast such as going to My Doc's or program files ETC. Please advise me if I should reload IE 8.0. Also what was the virus that was in this pc and could it have it been hiding in the D partion of the HD. The reason I ask is before I came to you for help I went and did a Destructive Recovery from the D partion and reloaded the OS. It seemed like it was only a very short time when I noticed it was infected again. Is it true that some viruses can hide in the mother board or low level memory that would be in optic drives.. Thank you so much for all you expert help. Could you please let me know what an average donation would be to What the Tech…. Thanks again Ron
You may wish to uninstall IE8 , then reinstall it, else post in our Browsers forum for the techs there to take a peek.
It's hard to say how this infection came on board, it didn't appear to be in the D partition. It's not difficult these days to pick up an infection from anywhere, that's why I like the Web of Trust, it alerts to bad web sites before you visit.
Stay away from Peer to Peer and torrents, don't open emails from anyone you don't know, or open very suspicious looking ones from people you do know, without first verifying them. Spoofing emails are a big way that infections are traveling around these days.
Please don't feel obliged to donate, my help is always free, but if you wish to, any amount is appreciated.
Thank-you
stay safe
