Hello Fellow Members. I went on line and goggled ztrucker not understanding why a registry defragger that I had posted to try and help someone speed up their machine was blocked any way I now do understand even though I use them myself on vista and my xp laptop. I will not post defraggers again on this site.
I also use a registry defragger that is part of ERUNT called NTREGOPT, but as I mentioned, it really is a feel good action and makes little or no difference in system performance. It's never caused me any problems and is actually documented in a tip I put together for WTT here:
so they are not banned, just not highly recommended here.
The same is true of hard drive defraggers, unless the drive is so severely fragmented that's is nearly unusable. This is my personal opinion from the research I did on the subject, but others swear that defragging a hard drive helps performance.
What does severely impact performance is a disk that does not have enough free space or a system without enough ram.
Hello ztrucker. The only reason that I use the registry defragger is that it compresses the reg thus eliminating gaps which in turn so I thought of speeding response times am I wrong in this assumption.
It does reduce the time required to access some registry items, but it's measured in milliseconds so is totally undetectable to the user. Same is true for hard drive defrag.
Reg defrag software doesn't hurt anything most of the time but a few people on this site have reported problems after running one. I have personally never had a problem.
