Machines: Generic locally built, nothing fancy. OS: XP PRO Apps Running: Word, Outlook, Lightspeed (DMS on server) Three time in the last 6 weeks two of my computers have magically created toolbars from folder shortcuts on the desktop. Both employess were away from their desks when this happened. I've ruled out the possiblitity of office pranks, as no one is computer illiterate enough to do this. I can see how the employess could do it accidently, but they insist that it wasn't there when they walked away from their desk. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Any idea as to what causes it? Thanks
Hi,

Have you had both these computers checked for Malware over in the HJT forum. I notice you have had at least one checked by Oldman960 resolved on 28th March, are either of these computers you are referring to the same system?

What are the toolbars called and from what folder are they being created would also help.

There is a link in my signature called Useful link before posting that would give us more information to assist you if followed.

Keep us informed,

kind regards,
Hi Tallin, Thanks for the quick reply. I have not had these machines checked on the HJT forum. They both have Spyware Dr. and Malwarebytes installed, and are scanned on startup. I have also run several manual scans in the last week, due to the infected machine you referenced. The toolbar is being created from a shortcut to a document folder. Each machine has several of these shorcuts on thier desktops, pointing to different folders. Each time the toolbar is created it is located at the top of the desktop, which is where all of the shortcuts are. My gut keeps telling me that it's user error, but both employees swear that it happens when they are not at their desks. If you think I should generate HJT logs for each machine and post them on the appropriate forum, I'll do so. Thanks,
Hello again,

If you think I should generate HJT logs for each machine and post them on the appropriate forum, I'll do so.

I do advise you to generate logs for both computers into the appropriate forum for clearance of Malware.

I would mention that if you have a large business with an IT technician on sight please consult with them as we really are only here to help members with their personal computers, not for business purposes. If not, then please be patient for a response as the HJT forum is very busy at present, but they will pick up your log/s as soon as they can. Post two different logs, one for each computer mentioning why you are posting twice at the beginning of your explanation.

If you have not had a reply in 5 days, post a gentle reminder here.

Good luck and kind regards,
Thanks Tallin. I will post those logs tonight. The business is small, and I am the "IT" guy. I need all the help I can get.
