My modem SoftV92 Data Fax (Conextant) when connected is very noisy. I have selected the mute speaker to no avail. I have heard I may need a initializing string for the Speaker?? FAR AZ
Hmmm.. Let me see if I can recall the old Hayes commands. AT M0L0 (That is M zero L zero) would probably do the trick. If I remember right, L0 sets the speaker volume to zero and M0 tells the modem to never turn the speaker on. So, kind of a double whammy. :) Not that I think your problem should be resolved by using a custom initialization string, because all this stuff is controllable with point and click features now. If you provided some more information I could probably help you better, such as what program are you using to dial-up to the internet? What do you mean when you say you selected "mute" speaker? What is the make and model of your computer?
Appleoditty, I connect though Juno dial-up. I selected mute speaker under the modem properties. Running windows 2000 Pro NT. Computer is a old dino Toshiba 3100. Initializing string is using +M=90V. for my modem to connect properly. FAR AZ
Hi, I did verify I gave you the right commands. Try changing the initialization string to &FM0L0+M=90V that should do the trick. This command tells the modem to reset to factory defaults, turn off the speaker at all times, use low or no volume at all times (if the speaker was on), and modulate the signal using the v.90 protocol.
Must be a problem with the modem. Those commands do what they do. There's not anything else to be done but replace the modem.
