[Closed] IE7 Hijacked? Can't view http, only https pages

Please bear with me here. I am not a computer expert, but have always been able to get little issues fixed. But this one has me stumped. I've been at it for a week and a half now and am ready to pull my hair out.

I can't view http pages in IE7 although I can view secure http pages just fine. When I try to open IE I get the infamous….

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

If I try to type in www.google.com or any http address into the address bar I get the following message……
"The address is not valid

Then the address bar shows http:/// with nothing behind it.

I'm not quite sure what other info you may need. But this has been happening since 2/2/09. On 1/31/09 I installed and updated TaxCut program and downloaded & updated the state program. I didn't try to connect to the internet until 2/2 and now have this issue, although my daughter did connect. I am currently using FireFox and am having no issues with it, so it's strictly an IE7 problem.
I have a dial up connection using a modem with peoplepc as the isp.
I looked to see where my last restore point was and can only go back to 2/8/09, which was when I downloaded and installed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware version 1.33. I used that and ran a full scan and it came back clean.

I have another issue as well. I don't know if it has anything to do with my IE problem or not, but I tried to install the SP3 update and got an error message that said access denied and it wasn't able to complete the install. Different issue?

Next

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

  • Kaspersky report
  • New HijackThis log taken after everything else completed
