keystrokes from a laptop extremely slow

I have a dell XPS M1530, with windows vista. Since yesterday my keyboard strokes are lagging in all applications. What ever I type takes a few seconds to appearon the screen. I am not sure if some malaware is on my laptop to make this happen. Can anyone help me? Thanks Mihir
