Hi jolene85, welcome to WTT. Since you've verified your laptop is good and your broadband modem is good, that leaves your D-link router as the probably cause of the problem. Are you getting good signal strength from it? If it's new, return it. If not, can you borrow a router from a friend and try it at your house or have a friend bring their laptop to your house and try it.
Hi i seem to be getting a full strength from my router, i tried my friends laptop at my house and it still wouldn't work. i recentlry purchased a new laptop and with this one i cannot get online at all with my last laptop sometimes i got on sometimes i never but when i did get on it would onlly be for 2minutes or so before i'd get kicked off then i,d have to turn off the router and turn it back on in order to get online again. Also it was a secure router but for some reason at some point it reset itself and turned to a non secure line and will not let me secure it again please helkp me with this i;m at my wirs end with it. x
Time to replace the router. I don't believe anything else will help.

You can try the sequential reset process but I really don't expect it to help.
  • Power off or unplug your computer, router and broadband modem. Leave them off for at least 10 minutes.
  • Power on the broadband modem and wait until it's lights have stabilized
  • Power on the router and again wait for it's lights to stabilize
  • Lastly, power on the computer
If this doesn't help, go buy a new router.
A Google search for inexpensive wireless router gets lots a few hits.

Tiger Direct has quite a few at reasonable prices.
BestBuy also has some and if you don't want to wait you can buy it in one of their stores if one is near by.
NewEgg also has reasonable one.

Any chance you can borrow one from a friend to try first? That would absolutely, positively verify your router is bad or not.

Did you buy a new router yet? Other than resetting the router you haven't done much troubleshooting to see where the connection is failing at.

First, connect the laptop to the router and verify that the internet is not working.

  • Click start, click run, type cmd and press ENTER.
  • At the command prompt window, type ipconfig /all > desktop\postme.txt and press ENTER.
  • Type ping yahoo.com >> desktop\postme.txt and press ENTER.
  • When you are returned to the C:\doc and settings\> prompt close the command prompt window.
  • Open the postme.txt file that is now on your desktop. Copy and paste its contents to the forum.

Please tell me who your internet provider is and if it is cable or DSL?
