[Resolved] Trend Micro Results Doubt.

I've decided to give Trend Micro's HouseScan (6.6) online scan a try via Firefox to see what it picks up, and to my disappointment it found three "spyware/grayware". I am not sure if it is a false positive so I came here to confirm it. My HJT log came back clean.

I'll have to run a SAS (SuperAntiSpyware) and MBAM scan to see if it picks up anything.
I have yet fixed the results from HouseCall, as it could be potential false positives.

What HouseCall detected was:
Adware.FasterXP
Keylogger L_ABC (I don't remember word-for-word)
Adware.MemWatch (I'm betting it's a false positive, because of either SpywareBlaster or Spybot-Search&Destroy's Immunization).

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix, Vundofix, or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hello Sir. My computer is running normally. No pop-ups. Nothing, just like any normal PC. MBAM came out clean with a Full Scan and I've ran CCleaner prior to the scan. I'm not sure if what HouseCall detected was true or a false positive, so I want to confirm it. I have not fixed anything yet. I'll await further instructions.
Run this and we'll find out

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
It must be saved directly to your desktop.

Make sure you are disconnected from the net

1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Remember to re enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the net

2. Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
  • IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts.
  • If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

3. Now double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.
Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.
Morning LDTate.

Did Combofix just delete my… "reboot" key/entry or some sort?

It only removd 2 files:
C:\Documents and Settings\Family\Application Data\inst.exe
C:\WINDOWS\setup.exe

Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Here's my usual all clean post

    Log looks good :D

    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Note: I no longer suggest Zone Alarm

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.
  • Winpatrol

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

I would also suggest you read this:

Good job

It's clean? O.O Wow.
Sir, can you tell me what those two files were?

Also, would you advise that I fix those entries detected by TrendMicro's HouseCall 6.6?

:notworthy:
Edit: Also, BoClean detected a "trojan" when I uninstall Combofix, and Revo Uninstaller was unable to create a Restore Point during the uninstallation of HouseCall. Is that normal?
My best guess is:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyc…R.A&VSect=T

Dropping the file, INST.EXE, ensures that the backdoor component, which is detected as BKDR_DELODER.A, is executed at startup on the remote machine.

Hard telling what the setup.exe was.

I would change all my passwords to be on the safe side after doing the all clean post.

I would atleast rename the files in case they aren't bad and you need them.

Edit: Also, BoClean detected a "trojan" when I uninstall Combofix,

Yes, CF maintains the bad files yuntil it's removed.

and Revo Uninstaller was unable to create a Restore Point during the uninstallation of HouseCall. Is that normal?

I have no idea about Revo.

To be sure you have a clean restore point:

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

I'll begin changing all my passwords… I just wanted to know if you would advise that I fix what HouseCall detected. Thank you very much.
If you know the file name(s) go here and test them:

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

(copy/paste path to file here)
Example:
C:\Documents and Settings\Family\Application Data\inst.exe

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.
