Hello

Does having several security programs "protection modules" running at once have the opposite affect to what is intended?
For e.g I have Spybot, Malwarebytes and Spyware Blaster's protection modules running.
What's the opinion on this?

The "opposite" affect? That would mean instead of protecting the systems from malware, they would instead infect systems. No they don't do that.

But there is too much of a good thing. Worse case is conflicts will arise as one program become suspicious of a another program watching over the same asset - two dogs guarding the same bone.

But even if the programs play well together, but do the same thing, then if nothing else, you are wasting CPU and RAM resources.
Hi Digerati hope you well?

 I didnt quite mean that, I meant would the programs conflict.

Nice analogy :D and thanks for answering my question.

I have Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, MBAM, Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm and about other things on my PC. In "msconfig" under "startup" uncheck either Spyblaster or Spybot S&D. It will not uninstall it, and you can still use it if you run the app. I disabled AdAware startup & have Spybot w/TeaTimer running, since it plays nicely with Kaspersky IS 2009 and ZoneAlarm.

My personal pref:

ZoneAlarm-firewall (RUNNING)
Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 full version- AV (RUNNING)
Spybot S&D (RUNNING)
Ad-Aware (not runing, use when needed)
MBAM (System protection OFF)

But its all your personal preference, obviously. These are settings and products that I chose. Im just offeing configuration opinions…I could be off my rocker :pullhair: …But I think there is nothing wrong with having backup programs, unless specified otherwise by the software.

Digeratis got it, but also know that unless you have the Full version of Malwarebytes, it doesn't provide real-time protection. There are many classes of anti-virus and such but when depicting whether two will clash together you look at which ones provide real-time protection. Real-time protection is what it says it is, protection from current virus threats and such. The other kind are simply "virus removal" prorams, that only remove viruses, not stop them. Malwarebytes free is one of those, it may have a few real-time protection things but overall it's for virus removal, thus it should not conflict with other programs.

HTJ for example is definitely not real-time protection, it is a virus remover (and it does other stuff).
