Good morning :wavey: That is what I expected These listed in add/remove don't slow up your PC. This is just showing you what is on the PC. They don't slow up your PC unless they are running. The programs that are running when you boot up are being shown on the bottom right side of the bottom task bar. So these in the add/remove are ok to leave alone. If you want you can go back to add/remove and highlight: Windows Live Toolbars Then click on remove the Yahoo messenger if you can't remove it in add/remoce. Run a search for UNWISE.exe when found click on it to open. This is the yahoo messenger uninstall. How is the pc running now? According to your log it should be doing good. Let me know as I have some good things for you to do. :thumbup: mschroe919
Hi Mschroe, Problem! Idiot novice on the loose here! I found UNWISE.EXE for Messenger and I deleted it. I'm don't think I should have done that now that I think about it but when I opened the box, it had INSTALL in it under My Documents in a LOG file. So I went to Search and searched for Yahoo Messenger. There are several uninstall shortcuts in there but when I click it, it searches for the UNWISE.EXE file and says it is gone. I have 15 Yahoo Messenger entries that came up when I did the search. Should I just delete those or is there a way I can get the UNWISE.EXE back to do the complete uninstall? :smack: James

Hi Mschroe, I did the Search for Yahoo and got about 50 different entries. I don't see a Yahoo (just plain Yahoo) in C:\ProgramFIles. I have various Yahoo in what looks to be different part of the world in Program Files. I clicked on several Yahoo entried and nothing as you described comes up. I also did another search on UNWISE.EXE and get other files with UNWISE.EXE but nothing for Yahoo. Any other suggestions? THANKS! James
Hi Since the unistaller for yahoo messenger is gone, I can't figure out what exactly your trying to do. If its getting rid of yahoo go ahead and delete all yahoo that shows up. Then if you ever want it back you can download it again. That is all I can say. Now I want to give you the all clean sing so how is your PC doing?

If it is doing as I think it is herte is my all clean speech to keep it clean.

As I said there would be more …..here

Use an Anti Virus Software
It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See these links for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
If you don't have one here are some of the better AV products.

Symantec/Norton Antivirus: http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_9xnt/
Kapersky AV: http://www.kaspersky.com/buyonline.html?info=25
Nod32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
Panda AV: http://www.pandasoftware.com/
McAfee Virusscan: http://us.mcafee.com/root/package.asp?pkgid=100
AVG Anti-Virus (Free version available) http://www.grisoft.com/

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
============================================================
NEXT:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
If you don't have one see link below for a free firewall:

ZoneAlarm:

Sunbelt Kerio:

================================================================================

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software

Get the download and tutorial for Spybot S&D here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial43.html
=========================================================================

Install SpywareBlaster
SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
========================================================================

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Good morning Mschroe, :wavey: I wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotton to post. I am helping someone move this weekend. I will be back later on and will post then ok. Computer running pretty darn good except when I have Kaspersky in start up. Then very slow. Do you know what I can do if my computer does not automatically shut off? It shuts down but I have to manually click the button to turn it off. Just thought I would run that one by you. Again, THANK YOU and I WILL be back! :D James
Hi

Are you running a paid version of Kaspersky?
If not I would install The free version of AVG 8.0

Seem like a lot of people have slow starting pc's when they have Kaspersky in start up.
did you or would you time tie start up with Kaspersky in start up . let me know in min and seconds how long it takes. and what size ram you have?

Like me it would't make the difference cause I keep my pc running only shut off when I have to.

Next
for shutting down I did this to mine:

create a shutdown icon on desktop
here is how:
Right click on your desktop and select new > shortcut.
In dialog box type shutdown –s -t 01
click next to continue and then type a name for shortcut and click finish.

Notice the t 01
the t is for time
01 is for seconds to shut dow you can change the 01 to I think 60

Once you have the Icon you can change the picture of the icon here is how:
Right click on the icon then left click on change icon then left click on choose a picture from another from another file, then a window will pop up with pictures pick one abd apply

Good luck mschroe919
Hi Mschroe, :wavey: I just did the desktop shutdown shortcut and I put 01 seconds on it. REALLY COOL! It did shut down faster but the off button on the tower didn't go off. It stayed on. I don't know what has happened to make the button not shut off automatically like it should and did when it was new.. I put Kaspersky back in start up and it took 3 minutes, 19 seconds to boot up. That really makes it drag. Then I put the Kaspersky (in start up) but told it to start in 8 minutes and it was faster but the Kaspersky icon does not come up at start up so I think that may just be a delayed start up. Does that make sense? I may just keep it out of start up and just activate it when I want to scan. Then I can go and get AVG 8.0 and try that. Do you like that antivirus? Does it slow down your system like Kaspersky? I do like Kaspersky but it is slow. The Kaspersky I have is a pay application. I have 512 mg. ram/memory, the most my computer will take. I created a clean restore point and made all the other changes you suggested in your previous post. I think I am going to get the AVG, Spybot and Zone Alarm. I have had Zone Alarm before but it was just a pain in the er uh well you know. :pullhair: My computer is REALLY running good now and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it. I absolutely LOVE this forum and you guys do a GREAT service here. My girlfriend joined a couple of nights ago because she has ME and it is not running great. She was amazed at this site, like me, and we will tell everyone we know about it. I will HIGHLY recommend this site to anyone! Mschroe, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your patience and time in helping me get rid of the trojan and helping me to correct years of wrongs that I didn't know how to correct. I would give anything to have your knowledge of computers. It is so nice to know that we have a place to come to for help and to think that you do this so generously and donate your time just to help people, well, I am truly overwhelmed. The world would be a better place with more people like you in it and I just cannot express my thanks enough at what you have done for me. Gosh, I almost hate to close this thread! :smack: You will be MUCH blessed for what you so generously do for others my friend! James PS. Do you by chance give computer tutoring lessons????? heh heh :thumbup:
