hi,a year ago i had a trojan that symantec couldn't get out, eventually i got help from pc world and my pc crashed.i had to buy new discs and install them.my pc started acting weird again and i tried to reboot (always the advise pc world gives when you have problems!)but my pc wouldn't do a recovery using f11. i tried it through windows and was asked for an administrators password but it wasnt accepted.im the only administrator!i performed symantec secutity check(online) but it always shows a failure on last checks, virus, trojans, spyware and ports. why,do i still have trojan in my system? i have tried many programmes to detect but none do. my pc fails to do security checks on many online programs also. hope ive given enough or correct info! i have a packard bell imedia running w xp . thanx x

Hello,

Your HJT log looks fine , no malware or viruses that I can see.

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

  • How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

–please could you have a look at this. i checked some on ie and would like 2nd opinion. thanx x
Is this a different computer ??

The only thing I see wrong with it is that you have an entry for AVG that is no longer running on your system, so fix this with HJT.

Hi ken,no,its same pc but i had backed up files after first scan.i had had it analized and went to check it, most responses had me thinking it was unsafe so i decided to restore items and have you check it. thanx again,i have to stop being so paranoid about online threats!
Install these free programs. DO NOT EVER EVER EVER DOWNLOAD ANYTHING THAT POPS UP IN YOUR BROWSER THAT OFFERS A FREE SCAN.

All the tools we recommend are F R E E outside of Anti Virus programs and I can link you to free AVs if you so choose.

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster, you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot.

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 3 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Enjoy the internet, just don't download willy nilly, don't open email attachements unless you know who its from. Stay out of porn sites. Don't use any File Sharing programs. Don't download any cracked illegal software and the list goes on,.

Take care,
Ken
Hello,me again! as i was probing about my pc 2night i noticed when i go into my computer i can now go straight into windows folders.it used to have a page that came up and warned that its better to leave these alone. why has this happened? i can access all system file folders without this prompt. i still cant get a full security scan from symantec online scan? any ideas?? if your getting sick of me just let me know. x ;)
if your getting sick of me just let me know. <— Nope, ,this is what we do, helping people like yourself

The first time you went to the windows folder and it prompted you and you accepted and proceeded than the next time you access that folder you will not be prompted, this is normal so not to worry.

Online scans are funny, on some systems they will run real quick and on others they will balk at running, why I don't know, but there are others you can try, and most require Internet Explorer to run properly. You are running an older version of Internet Explorer, you should update to version 7 as its more secure than IE6. When you install it , it will keep all your bookmarks and such so you should not lose anything.

You can download and install it for free from the Microsoft site here
