Hi there i am totally new to this site, i came accross it while i was looking for ways to remove Trojan.Vundo.EWS. I have bitdefender total security (trial) and i did a deep system scan and it picked up the Trojan.Vundo.EWS and said 'No action could be taken because the file is in an archive'. Im really pissed :pullhair: coz i dont see the point of having an anti virus programme that tells you that your computer has a virus and it cant even remove the virus! whats the point! the virus is in C:\System Volume Information\ which is a hidden folder. I tried opening it to attempt to manually delete the virus but it denies me access to open the folder so i really dont know what to do. i even downloaded malwarebytes and it came up with nothing! please can u guys help me!!! thanks.. Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

I see you have 2 anti virus programs installed.
Nortons Internet security and Bit Defender.
This is a bad idea.
They will fight for resources, conflict with each other and provide you with much less protection.
I strongly urge you to remove 1 of them through add/ remove programs now.

You need to update SunJava for security reasons. Vundo takes advantage of you when Java is out of date.

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.

Let's be sure nothing else is left behind by Vundo. Then after this we will remove what is in the system restore point.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please post the contents of that log.

If you accidently close it you may find it here.
    Start -> All Programs -> Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware -> Logs
