not sure where this is coming from and why but any help in ridding myself of this would be greatly appreciated
Welcome to the forum :wavey:

Go to:

Start –> All programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> System Restore

Create a restore point.

Now, go to:

Start –> All programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> Disk Cleanup

Select C:

Then select these only:

Temporary Internet Files

Recycle bin

Temporary Files

Click the "More Options" tab

At the bottom there's an option to cleanup System restore.

This cleans all but the latest restore point.

Click the "Cleanup" button.

OK any prompts and let it cleanup the selected items.

Reboot.

Run AVG to see if we were successful.
:)
I see "Viewpoint Manager" in the log.

Some consider it to be "Spyware". It can be removed via "Add/Remove Programs" if you want.

I have people "fix" these:

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

You'll probably have to temporarily disable Spysweeper to do the fixes.

It's nothing "serious" either.

Other than that, the log looks good.
:)
thanks again…..what exactly is viewpoint manager. and while i have such a knowledgeable and helpful person here, could you answer two more brief questions? a…where did the trojan come from and what preventive measures do i need to step up for it to not happen again b….i have something called fotomat on my computer and i dont really know what its for or where it came from. i think it might have happened when i installed something called "ACE Mega Codecs Pack" because someone told me that would give me every codec ill ever need. once again i cant thank you enough for all the help youve been avg is running still right now johnathan
one thing i forgot to point out also is that you had me clean the c drive but it said the infection was on my g drive which is my other hard drive? i run windows and all that from c though. didnt know if that mattered
what exactly is viewpoint manager.

About the Viewpoint Manager

The Viewpoint Manager is a component of various Viewpoint products that manages the download of performance upgrades, updates, and bug fixes for Viewpoint applications. To ensure that Viewpoint applications stay current, the Viewpoint Manager checks Viewpoint servers for new components every 24 hours without interfering with the end-user’s online experience. If the Viewpoint Manager detects an update on the Viewpoint component servers, the update is automatically downloaded and installed ("Auto-Update"). The Viewpoint Manager has built-in bandwidth detection and will throttle the download of updates when it senses bandwidth constraints. This ensures that the auto-update process does not interfere with the end-user’s regular surfing behavior.

The Viewpoint Manager can be accessed via the Windows Control Panel and provides the end-user the option to disable auto-updating of the Viewpoint Media Player and the Viewpoint Manager. Users may also choose to display a notification each time the Viewpoint Manager downloads a new component. When the auto-update process is disabled, the Viewpoint Manager will not check the Viewpoint servers for updates, and Viewpoint applications may not receive the latest upgrades and enhancements.

Probably installed because you have "Viewpoint Toolbar" (which will function without "Viewpoint Manger" present).

where did the trojan come from and what preventive measures do i need to step up for it to not happen again

Where it came from…..

How to prevent:

You have an anti-virus (up-to-date- definitions, I presume).

I see no firewall…. Links to free ones and other "goodies" here:

Securing Your PC After An Attack

From your log:

Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)

Consider going to SP2.

Switch to an alternate browser (such as Firefox - found at above link).

Check your browser settings:

Jason's Toolbox

Rogue websites can download malware to your machine silently if your browser isn't configured properly.

i have something called fotomat on my computer and i dont really know what its for or where it came from. i think it might have happened when i installed something called "ACE Mega Codecs Pack" because someone told me that would give me every codec ill ever need.

one thing i forgot to point out also is that you had me clean the c drive but it said the infection was on my g drive which is my other hard drive? i run windows and all that from c though. didnt know if that mattered

I don't think your machine keeps system restore points on two separate drives….
