System Recovery, No sound from speakers & black screen

Hi All, Please help me with this problem. Gateway GT4016 - 1 gig of RAM windows XP Pro- Media Center Edition SP 2, when the problem started, I did one recovery and then installed SP-3, it stayed up for a couple of days with (SP-3), then started rebooting again. Not sure what else to tell you since I did a recovery "Probably" back to XP SP1 with the attempt at recovery. it made it to the naming the pc part and when I did this and clicked next it went to a black screen. edit- I didnt mean to post this in the hijack this forum….now what?

Hello Dutch70, Have you added any new hardware lately? I would like to ask you to try a known good hard drive to do the recovery with. If the hard drive that you have is failing it could cause the issue you are describing. NOTE since the issue is not allowing you to complet the recovery, I do not believe it to be a software issue.
