For the last 3 days, whenever I shut down my pc, the ccApp End Program box appears and then, as Wndows shuts down, I get one or another variation on the following: Instruction at "0x6953277" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate program. The very 1st time it happened, I was on my bank's website, the screen kept freezing and then the window would populate every time I tried going from one page of the site to another. I was able to exit the website, and log out of the Internet, but after the Application error came up during shut down, the screen froze again and the only way to turn the pc off was by pressing the button. The only applications running, as far as I know, were IE, of course, the Web Accelerator that comes with my Internet provider's service, and Norton. The message above was the 1st one. The next one said: The exception unknown software exception (0xc000001e) occurred in the application at location 0x01d11320. Click ok to terminate the program. Again I had to use the button to turn off the computer. I have ran Norton Security scans, AdAware, Spyware, nothing helped. This morning I found this site and looked through a lot of threads, I found one that said something about "Memory could not be read" but it was at bootup. I also found one response to a freezing pc issue that advised a check disk, and I tried that. No bad files were found, but since then, the pc shuts down, although I still get the Application Error messages. The numbers are different, but the rest of message is very similar. I downloaded the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and restarted my pc, but when it started up again, I didn't get any warnings or reports about unwanted software. The last time I restarted my computer, I got something different: Exception Array bounds exceeded. Couldn't read the whole thing, because the pc shut down. So this is where I am now. I'd be very grateful for some advice. G.T.
I am adding here a copy of HijackThis log.

Hi Sorry for the delay in responding but the helpers here tend to look for topics with 0 replies. Could you post a new HijackThis log and let me know if anything has changed.
Hi, Scotty,

First, thanks for responding. And please don't appologize for how long it takes, :) I understand you guys are volunteers with lives and families. I appreciate you taking time away from them to help others like me.

There have indeed been some changes.
First off, I don't get the ccScvcHst.exe Application Error at shutdown anymore. Then a couple of days ago, I wanted to check this forum, but it took a very long time for the start menu to come up and when it finally did, none of the programs were accessible. For example, I tried to go to Control Panel, and after a long wait, a box popped up that said the file couldn't be accessed. There were no numbers, and unfortunately I failed to note the exact wording. I had to power off the pc with the button on the tower.

Yesterday, however, I was able to navigate through the programs, ran Norton Internet Security, Spybot and AdAware scans. Norton found several risks, all related to something called Zango. They were quarantined. Spybot also found some 91 files with that same word in the filename, all fixed.
And I'm not sure if it's related, but the last 2 times I ran a Spybot scan, the top risk found was Microsoft Security Center Disabled, which I had selected to fix the first time.

Now, I still get the End Program box with ccApp in the top whenever I shut down Windows, and the last time,
I also got one with Explorer.exe.

Here's the highjack log.

Hi

Lets have another look.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

      + Extended(If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

With the exception of Internet Explorer, which is needed for the Kaspersky Scan, keep ALL programs closed until the scan is complete. This includes your anti-virus. Once you have installed the Scanner, and the updated definitions, you can disconnect from the Internet.Re-enable the anti-virus before reconnecting to the Internet.
I'v followed your instructions exactly and here are the results. I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto‑updating for the Viewpoint Manager ‑‑ the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight Viewpoint Manager, click Remove.
  • Do the same for each Viewpoint component.

I see you are using Wild Tangent. It is not malware, but is sometimes thought to bring malware along. Wild Tangent is a video game software company specializing in online games. It has even made a partnership with AOL to include itself as part of the AOL Instant Messenger for their AIM games section. The WildTangent Web Driver is their technology that allows you to play 3D games over the Internet. Although it’s not technically considered spyware, it does have built in components to update itself and gather information about the computer system including
  • Operating System Version
  • CPU Type and Speed
  • Memory Amount
Video Card type and Driver Version
  • Sound Card type and Driver Version
  • DirectX Version
Location that the Web Driver was installed from
  • It is also a MAJOR resource hog.
For more information, see WildTangent Removal Instructions and Help and Inside Wild Tangent-Delivering High-End 3-D Content To A Web Site Near You.
Unless you are an extremely avid games player, I recommend you uninstall Wild Tangent: To uninstall Wild Tangent:
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight Wild Tangent, click Remove.
  • Close the Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel windows.

Hi

Open up OTMoveit and this time select CleanUp. It will uninstall OTMoveit.
Delete the fsbl.exe icon too.

If you already have Combofix, please delete that copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please download Combofix from Bleeping Computer.

If you can't download it from there, please try these 2 alternative sites:

Forospyware
Geeks to Go

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your anti-virus and any real-time anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Click Start>Run copy/paste or type "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall into the Run box and click OK.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

In your next reply post:
ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log taken after the above scan has run
