I can not install some software that needs windows installer. I went to services, windows installer and found it stopped every time i reboot. I restart and set set startup type to man. Then I tried to look in dependencies and get interface: not registered. I am this systems addman. this is my home system. I think this happened after IE7 maybe??? I did go to MS support for some help and found 893803 installer 3.1 and did all that and still no luck. Help again guys..
Here is a link that will help you when posting to this forum. I could not find what OS you are running in your profile so please read the link to help us help you.
I suggest you follow the steps below then reboot your computer and try your installer again.
Please post back with any questions you may have.
There will be no report at the end of the scan, but you do need your OS CD to run it correctly.
kind regards,
Backup/archive/copy
To be on the safe side I strongly recommend that before doing anything at all you check that your back up/archive/copy of all your important data, drivers, files, settings, work, etc is 100% up to date accurate and reproducible, (even if your back up is even only a day or so out of date, it's worth updating it now.)
Also don't forget to check that you have all your application Installation CD's to hand together with the product keys (including those for Windows itself)
Windows Protected System File Checker SFC
Start>Run
type:
sfc /scannow (note the space between c /)
Have your Win XP installation disc handy as if damaged files are found they will need to be copied across from your disc, if SFC can't find correct copies elsewhere.
Thanks Tallin
Well I made it through the reinstall of old files. My windows reinstall disk is from 2001 and dell. Sorry I forgot to tell you thr system was XP with SP 1 & 2. After the reboot I am still not able to install.
Sorry that was not successful in helping you, but would be a good exercise to make sure all your OS files are in their correct places and not corrupted.
Please go to the Windows Update link and make sure all your WU are current.
Start > Microsoft or Windows updates…….whichever is showing at the top.
