Hi guys, I have windows xp home edition sp2 with MS office pro 2003, nero burnin rom 6, acronis true image 11.0, cyberlink power dvd. My question is if i upgrade to Vista Ultimate , will i lose all of these softwares, if not , wich ones are going to stay?
Lose? No. But they may not work, if older versions. You should check the websites for all your programs to make sure they run on Vista - and that you have the latest versions. Same with your hardware drivers.
By the way, many, including myself, feel that Vista should be installed on new, current technology, hardware only. If your current PC was built around the time Office 2003 was on the shelves, then, IMO, it will be a mistake to upgrade. Just like every version of Windows before Vista, it requires more horsepower hardware (faster CPU, more RAM, and more powerful graphics) than XP.
I generally advise folks with XP to stick with XP - you will NOT see any performance gain by switching to Vista. When you are ready for a new computer, get Vista then.
And, as timing would have it and Vista SP1 is about to be released to the general public, everyone should wait, if possible, until SP1 comes preinstalled on pre-builts, and comes on original Vista install disks to ensure the easiest transition - that should be in just a couple weeks.
