Go to Add/Remove programs and remove: Backup: Dell-Installed Programs Insert the Backup: Dell-Installed Programs CD in the CD drive. The Backup: Dell-Installed Programs window appears. Click the Next button. The InstallShield Wizard Complete window appears. Click the Finish button. (you don’t want to install anything. Exit) Reboot and see if that error goes bye bye.
Bingo - that seemed to do the trick. No more install prompts. There is one more symptom. I'm running XP so my wife and I have our own log-in, and we have a guest log-in set up but that's rarely used. I'm no longer receiving the system32 DLL errors when I log in but when my wife goes to her log-in she gets the same DLL errors that I was getting before when I logged in. I didn't think to check symptoms under her log-in. Also, there are no dll errors on the guest login. Should I run HJT from her desktop? Thanks, Dan

This is probably just a left over but I'm going to look at it fully.

1. Download Combo fix from one of these locations. ( Please save it to your desktop )
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe

combofix.exe

2.Close all open windows
3. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
4. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply . (c:\comboFix.txt)

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combo fix in order to be effecient is going to disconect you from the internet. If when it is done and you can't get back on the internet just restart the computer.

In your next reply I would like to see:
  • A new HJT log
  • The report from ComboFix
-Ran HJT and removed those two line items
-searched for the DOT file but it wasn't found
-Ran combo fix but it took a couple of times to get it running. Comodo is going nuts popping up every couple of seconds during and after the combofix was running. I figured it's related to combofix so I've been allowing the request. I hope that didn't mess up the scan/fix.

Combofix log below:

Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the

Let me know that error message is gone.
Hi Bob, I think we're in the clear. My wife didn't need the AIM or MSN Messanger so I'm going to not re-install them. The combo-fix took quite a while of clicking the comodo firewall to finally do it's thing but it seems to be uninstalled ok. So, no symptoms :woot: :woot: Thanks again for all of your help. I had no idea it was going to entail so much work. I appreciate you sticking with my while we got all of this sorted. You're performing a real service that should be commended. Best of luck and, while it's been a pleasure, I hope we don't cross paths any time soon. Dan T
Glad I could be of help.

Thanks for letting me know Commodo gave you such an issue with ComboFix.
I will now be able to help people better knowing that.

I will leave this topic
