this is my first custom build pc and im very frustrated about this problem im having. i have already replace both my cpu and motherboard. my computer turns on and all my fans seem to work as well as the harddrive spinning but the picture doesnt show up.
8600gt graphics card
nforce6m-a motherboard
amd 4800 dual core cpu
500 watt power supply
help would be greatly apreciated
First, are you sure you don't have any extra standoffs under the motherboard? Cases are designed to support 1000s of motherboards so there will always be more mounting holes in the case than there are in the motherboard. You might want to assemble the PC out of the case putting the motherboard on a hard, nonconductive surface, light a clean wood cutting board.
Are you sure your power supply works? I keep a FrozenCPU Ultimate PSU Tester in my travel tool bag. It is not as good as a qualified technician testing the power supply unit (PSU) under a true load with an oscilloscope, but close. The advantage of this model is that it has an LCD readout of the voltage. With an actual voltage readout, you can better detect a "failing" PSU. Lesser models use LEDs to indicate the voltage is within some "range". These are less informative, considerably cheaper, but still useful for detecting PSUs that have already "failed". Newegg has several testers to choose from. All these testers contain a "dummy load" to fool the PSU into thinking it is connected to a motherboard, and therefore allows the PSU to power on, if able, without being attached to a motherboard - great for testing fans too. Alternatively, you can swap out the PSU with a known good one that meets the computer's power requirements.
Does that monitor work? Have you tried it on another computer?
Did you use thermal interface material between the CPU and heatsink?
its a new power supply and ive tried it on multiple monitors
thanks for the tip about the standoffs but all looks well there
sry that i posted in two areas but im jus very frustrated with this and wanted help asap
thanx
Then I would take everything out of the case, connect one stick of RAM, the CPU with heatsink fan assembly, the monitor connected to the motherboard's video connector, not the cards, and boot. You should see on the monitor the video card boot screen, RAM count and then it will freeze with it looks for a boot drive.
Be sure to take necessary ESD precautions so there is no destructive static discharges.
ive tried that already and no luck, and he monitor has no onboard videocard so im using my 8600gt which works because ive tested it on my brothers pc which uses the same card
I see in your manual your motherboard does not have an onboard speaker. This means you MUST connect the case speaker to the motherboard to hear the BIOS beep codes. With the motherboard in the case, did you connect the case speaker? Did you hear any beeps? This is pretty important for troubleshooting.
and he monitor has no onboard videocard
What I said was, "the monitor connected to the motherboard's video connector - that is, use the motherboard's on-board graphics and NOT your graphics card to eliminate the card from the equation. Your motherboard has on-board graphics. Monitors never do.
ive tried that already and no luck
Oh? You powered up the motherboard with only the CPU/HSF, 1 stick of RAM, the monitor (no video card) and that's it, and nothing happened?
How did you initiate the power on/boot?
Then the next step would have been to swap in each RAM stick individually and try to boot again until you have gone through all sticks.
If still nothing, it would likely point to a bad motherboard, CPU, or PSU. But, again, knowing if the system beeps, how many beeps, and the pattern to the beeps is important.
yes i tried every stick of ram and i have tried everything
i powered it up by touching a screwdriver to the power connector
all the ram is good ive tried it on other computers
the cpu and motherboard have both been replaced and the same thing happened with the other set
the psu is new and works perfect (500watt)
i have no idea what to do
thank you so much for being so helpful
