everytime i boot my computer up i keep getting an error "Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\Config\Isass.exe.' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. to search for a file, click the Start button and then click search." now this started happening about a week ago already. never had this issue before. the main reason for this issue is because my main partition for the HardDrive is " I " and not " C ". how can i get this issue resolved?
Hi Larryi42
Sry. to hear that…
Have you tried seached for lsass.exe? (its an lower L in case you were in doubt)
Have you tried to reset the drive letter to C?
Also:
lsass.exe manages your security policies in your system, and is very vital to your pc's safety.
Some malware are known to corrupt this file, so maybe you should consider posting a HJT-log.
but lets not jump to conclusion, if the pc acts otherwise normally, it might be that the file is just missing, or need to be redirected.
Kind regards Abydos
I have not tried to reset my letter Drive to C, i have too many applications and things set to I that i just want to leave it as I (lowercase i), I know what lssas.exe, when i got this error i googled it to see what it could have been. like i said this happen recently that i started getting this error. Just wanted to know if anyone would know how to fix it.
Sorry for not being specific enough. With searched i meant, searched in your pc for it? Start menu–>search…..To clarify if the file is missing or not.
About how to fix it, theres a couple of options.
The first to try, as it doesn't involve much on your part, is doing a system file scan. This requires a original windows CD.
Goto start–>Run–>type: SFC /scannow (notice the space between C and / )
Let it run, and pop in your CD if it ask for it. The scan will attempt to repair / replace damaged or missing files.
Reboot to see if the problem is gone.
Third option is a windows installation repair. But before we use that option, i would like to know if one of the others met with success.
Sidenote:
How many partitions do you have? I mean naming it "i" must be your own doing or? Windows normally take them in sequence, a,b,c,d etc etc. Why i ask that, is because i would like to know if you have used some kind of partition program, and then moved your OS afterwards?
