I have Zone Alarm Firewall Free Edition on my system and I consistently see different entries that have blank names, single letter names or miscelaneus characters for the name with 0 kb size. These entries for the most part get there without even getting message of internet access attempts. My keyboard alt configuration for special characters is not working properly and I have been getting a very slow shutdown of the system and more often lately, no shutdown. I had been getting the ZA entries and the alt keys issue before and I figured I must have had a Virus so I just reconfigured my entire system with a new OS install (I figured it was due anyway). But the problem has come back after about a week now witht the shutdown issue.

I was reading through the HJT log and couldn't see a program that I use for Parental Contro: "PC Tattletale", so wanted to make you aware of this. At first I thought it could be the problem but I have it on another system and it doesn't have any issues.

Needless to say I'm stumped and have no Idea what's going on....so any help would be going in the right direction.

Please open Notepad and uncheck Word Wrap to turn it off.

If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

I'm not a big fan of Zone Alarm anymore. I'll see if I can find a web link to help you with settings for it.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.

Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.
