It's a chick fight between me the this B*&ch computer. Any assistance in removing some of these beasties would be appreciated.

Some givens:
Windows XP
… ran for awhile with no anti-virus (Hey, it's not MY computer)
Just installed BitDefender, which has had some positive affect, but BD is battling too… especially the firewall.
Yes, I have a support note in to them also.

Symptoms:
1) Fights the firewall upon booting.
2) Frequently wants to write to the registry files with a five-character name DM—.exe (the last 3 characters change each time.) Does not like the answer "No"
3) Sluggish behavior, lock-ups
4) Re-routes browser to "shopping" site.

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

* Run Fixwareout on the desktop.
* Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
* The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
* You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
* Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
* Once the desktop loads a text will open (report.txt). We'll need that in a bit.

"Copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

Also open this file with Notepad:

C:\fixwareout\report.txt

And paste it's contents into your next post.

:)
Dear Micah 6:8,

Thank you for your help. So far we have achieved a great measure of success!
BitDefender was able to start its firewall with the last boot and I can feel some responsiveness
returning to the system.

I did remove a few other lines besides the ones you mentioned. I took out the ones for Symantec & House Calls, since that software is not the current protection for this machine.

As you requested, here also is the report.txt file from the kickin-keister fixwareout program:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! The Firewall began acting up again with the very next boot, so I uninstalled BitDefender, turned on the Windows Firewall and then re-installed BitDefender V10 suite with all options except firewall. So far, so good. BitDefender scanned again and found 2 trojans, which it seems to have disabled successfully by moving something. I'll just exercise it for a few days…but for now I'll end this thread. Thank you, again… you and the Team Coyote are great for doing this. When I know a little more I may sign up for classroom. -Tb (end transmission)
A word of caution about Windows firewall.

It's only "one-way" protection.

It can stop some things from getting in, but if something slips past it won't alert you that it may be inviting other malware in.

We suggest something bi-directional.

Thank you for choosing TomCoyote for your malware removal solutions.
