I'm guessing that this trojan is going to infect a lot of computers before it is over with. I have no way of fixing my computer. the virus has locked me out, created a password (I did not have one before) I can not even get in to drop a bomb and reinstall all my settings, everything is locked out! I also think it has damaged my hard drive, at the moment–I think my computer is done if for. I think that it may have used AVG against me, the more I healed the corrupt files the more it seemed to remove things… Just to give you an idea, It killed the restore points, disabled C:drive, erased files from yahoo, MSN, disabled AVG so it could not scan for the virus, killed IE completely. (only able to get online through firefox when I was still able to) Tried to run linux programs to by pass the password that has been placed on my computer, looked at the registery, and it is saying the password has been changed–still not letting me in. My question is how do I keep this trojan from infecting my other computers? I was not on any IM programs at the time of the trojan download, I was on myspace. The active X came up to click on, which I didn't… and still started getting warnings from AVG that I had a trojan. Other then being online, I have no idea how I have receieved this monster. Any ideas how I can protect my other computers?
Hi Tinainfl Hmm, surely your pc aint done for. I would like to know if it is winXP-pro you are using? And do you have administrator rights on the troublesome pc?? Regards Abydos

Hmm, surely your pc aint done for. I

I agree. It is not likely any permanent physical damage was done. Worst case would likely be a BIOS reset, complete format and reinstall - of course, if like me, the data on my PC is worth many times more than the hardware, so I hope you have a backup.

If nothing else, you should be able to install that HD in another computer as a slave and run an exhaustive battery of anti-malware scans.

I was not on any IM programs at the time of the trojan download, I was on myspace.

Huh? Not being able to see your facial expressions or hear the tone in your voice, but my first thought when reading that was you think because you were on MySpace that you were safe? Or at least safer because you were not on IM. :( That is the case. Badguys love MySpace!!!!!! A real nasty just a couple weeks ago hit MySpace, see MySpace Profile + Fake Microsoft Patch = Malware Cocktail.

Disconnect this computer from the network until this problem is resolved!

Alternatively, you could hang that PC off by itself on it's own network behind an inexpensive router using a static IP - then block that network from your main network. Also, since all your computers should have local firewalls too, use them to block the offending PC's IP.

Do complete malware scans on all systems. One of the firsts thing I do when troubleshooting a PC is make sure I have a clean platform to work from. That's clean of heat trapping dust and dirt, as well as malware. Here's a link to my canned text on Cleaning Out Malware. Use it if you don't already have a complete security suite and disk cleaning utilities to rid your system of malware and clutter. You can also use it as a guide to build your own security suite, and to help you develop a "Practicing Safe Computing" self-discipline.
