Dear LDT: OK sfc scannow finished no files corrupted or damaged. Ran it again just to make certain. Seems no problems there..I think? Regards Denise
That's strange. Lets try this: Right Click on Combofix.exe and select Rename. Rename it to Combofix.com Now try it.
Hello LDT: Tried renaming it to Combofix.com same error…..Right clicked and selected "properties": "this file came from another computer">> Unblock program selected…….tried to run again same result Regards Denise
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

    * Download Deckard System Scanner to your Desktop.
    • Close all applications and windows.
    • Double-click on dds.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
    • The scan may take a minute. When the scan is complete, a text file will open - main.txt
    • A folder (C:\Deckard\System Scanner) will also open which contains the main.txt and an extra.txt.
    • Copy and paste the contents of main.txt in your next reply. Please attach Extra.txt to your post.

Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

To attach a file to a new post, simply
Click the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:

    C:\Deckard\System Scanner\Extra.txt

    Click Upload.

    What DSS will do:
–create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
–clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
–check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
–System Scanner automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
Hello LDT:

here is info and logs.

Regards Denise

You can change your homepage to whatever you like. The fixes we did makes the default MSN

Did you add this to your trusted zones? I think it's from Combofix but not sure.
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sigcheck.exe
Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Here's my usual all clean post

    Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

    %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

    Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
    Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Using IE-SPYAD to help block unwanted sites and activities

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

Hello LDT: First of all : Thank you so very much, you are awesome. I have a printout of the last response from you and will take heed of it's instructions. Your patience and skill have been most appreciated. Inspiring in fact… I plan to remain around here and learn some more. The combofix /u never worked again but everything else seems fine. Let me know if there is anything else I need to do. But I meant to express it in earlier post, I really appreciate your efforts and hope to see you around here soon ( not with another problem hopefully :) ) Regards Denise
