[Closed] riyocodec

OK firstly yes I was stupid, I have the K lite mega codec pack and between that and VLC I can pretty much play any video file… However, I installed the riyocodec and now my system is really messed up. The .avi file that supposedly needed this 'new' codec still wouldnt play and was basically raw data. OK no problem I thought, i deleted the file and forget about it. But now, I cannot use Internet explorer (google) properly, say I search for something i'll get the usual list of related searches but regardless of which link I click on I get instantly transported to either a porn site, gambling site or crappy search engine! What the hell!!! I've tried running spybot, it changed nothing, and the same with AVG. So firstly anyone who downloads a file and it says you need to download the latest codec from www.riyocodec.com DO NOT DO IT. Secondly please could someone point me in the direction of how to get rid of this nasty little virus / spyware / winsock whatever the hell it is. I've tried running spybot and AVG in safemode as I thought it may be lurking in the computers memory, but still I cannot detect it to remove it. Any advice would be really appreciated as cutting and pasting weblinks to access the internet is one hell of a pain in the ass! Cheers guys, lopher
Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

You can get a complete installer that installs HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HijackThis, making an entry in the start menu and also providing a desktop shortcut from http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HJTsetup.exe.

Click on the link and select Save, save it to your desktop and double click HJTsetup.exe.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here please use the [Add Reply] button below.
Hi, thanks for the reply, hope you'll know which bit is the prob! So here's the log copied and pasted:-

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

Please download FixWareout from this site:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text that will open (report.txt) Please save this file, you'll need to post it with a new HijackThis log.

Next:

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Next:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two

Reboot and "copy/paste" the text file (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thanks LDTate,

My internet explorer seems to be back to normal and I can click links without getting automatically redirected to some porno or gambling site! So thanks, here's the report.txt and new hijack this log incase anything is still lurking but all seems ok to me aprt from after I ran the ATF cleaner and it got rid of almost 1 GB of data (mostly temporary files) after I restarted my computer I quite quickly got warning low disk space warnings and down too only 107MB, is this because I have too many audio, video files etc on my computer or is this normal after running the ATF cleaner?

Anyway here's the report.txt:

Cheers for all the help so far,

Looks like you're running 2 anti-virus programs.
Grisoft\AVG7 and Eset

Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with each other, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove either:
Grisoft\AVG7 or Eset

Then we'll see what else needs to be removed.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
