Hi
I just spent the last couple of weeks trying to clean up my pc in the HJT forum, so now onto my next issue…
I have had the little yellow shied up for weeks. All I can get from it is a list that they all failed.
I looked through the Windows Update Newsgroup to no avail.
If anyone has any ideas, please help.
Thanks so much!!!!!!
"Something" has happened during the update/installation of these 11 items that caused a bad/aborted installation.
In the process, some associated junk files were left behind that now make it difficult for these same items to be installed.
This has occurred in so many instances that Microsoft has developed a Tool to deal with the problem.
______________

Steps:

Use the MS Update page to "find" these 11 items that have failed to install.
Write down "all" of the identifying information, including any KB numbers.
___________

Read about the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility
Download the Microsoft Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Don't run any of the above just yet.
___________

Be sure you have MS Installer 3.1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details…;displaylang=en
Download and install now, if you don't have it installed already.
_________

To run the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, use either of the following methods:
- Click 'Start', click 'All Programs' (or 'Programs' on some operating systems), and then click the shortcut for the
Windows Installer Clean Up Utility.
- Find and run the Msicuu.exe file.

IMPORTANT: Select only the 11 items that have failed to properly install, or which have persistently presented for download.

Carefully understand and follow the MS printed instructions for using Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility

Allow MSICUU.exe to do its thing, removing the present installation junk for those 11 items.
___________

Go Back to MS Updates.
It will again find the 11 items, but this time you have a fair shot at actually getting them installed.

Best Regards
Sorry, was still half asleep when I firstly answered your post, see you have it all sorted out now.
So do I still need to do this, you think?
Thanks!

Nope. From your follow-up statement, you believe that the updates installed correctly. If you later find that the same items persistently appear to be downloaded/installed again, you should follow the recommendation I posted above and the excellent recommendations posted by Tallin. Best Regards
