Hello,
My situation is not unlike many I have read here. I have been attacked and so far, have been unsuccessful at removing the malware. I was using Ad Aware SE and Spybot and they indicated I had DriveCleaner 2006. All attempts to remove were unsuccessful. Then I got Norton Internet Security. It indicated I had Downloader. Neither Norton or the instructions from Symantec have so far been able to free up the stack of pop-ups that occurs periodically.
Then I started web searching and found any number of descriptions that sounded like what I was seeing. But, when I used regedit to look (after disabling restore and booting in safe mode) it always seemed like I could not find the references I had been told to delete.
I have seen references to Vundo, HTTP QuickBrowser and OuterInfo along the way. I had some success at reducing and even eliminating the PUPs, but then a reboot or launch of either IE or Firefox seemed to start things all over again. The OuterInfo address was:
Edit: Link removed for safety reasons
I now have HJT and the log is posted here:
