Three of my friends are experiencing the same problem. They all have XP and all have dell computers (2 are laptops). All are getting the bsod regularly. I was helping one friend and we were able to get to the last known good configuration a few times. I was able to run the Dell laptop's diagnostic utility. There apparently is no hardware problem. I ran 3 online scans, spybot, ccleaner, adaware and superantispyware I am finding sidestep and softomate. and one found p3j.exe but couldn't clean it. I wonder if there is anything out there that is causing this issue. It seems odd that 3 unrelated people living in the local area are having the same issue. Any ideas?
consider "social engineering" features. Sidestep consolidates thousands of Travel Search engines. Softomate does the same for browser toolbars in a more general interest market. not much known about P3J.exe So what do those owner/users have in common? same ISP/portal - (ie yahoo, excite, prodigy, aol, etc) Same interests and lifestyle? Same academic assignment. Same industry. Same… Same… Same… I sure wouldn't lose any sleep over it, but it is curious _________ Seems "highly unlikely" that any of the above would be causing to BSOD. Maybe contributing, but not causing. BSOD are often hardware, driver, heat, operating system issues. Had any weather changes in your neighborhood lately? Could be just as related to problems, as the above listed items. Interesting topic, BagelAnne. Wonder if anyone will reply with an insight? Best Regards, Doug
All users are geographically within 20 miles of each other. All use Time Warner Roadrunner Cable (as do I but no problems here). Two use AOL browser software. Can't think of any other similarities
Hi there, I had a DELL XP that when new regularly gave a BSOD before I installed more RAM.

To rule that out, please let us know for each machine:
  • How much RAM.
  • Number of processes running from Startup.
  • When BSOD is experienced, is there a pattern ie; user opens more programs.
  • Are chat clients running, for instance, MSN, IRC, AIM.
  • Which versions of XP are installed.
Cheers.
Machine 1: 512 ram Processes-69 BSOD varies usually after a problem that causes the computer to close (i remember one being IE), will get bsod at next startup AOL chats XP home sp2 Machine 2 1GB ram Finally got this to boot after letting it sit for 5 hours and using last known good cnfig 58 processes BSOD she says usually when she tries to get online with aol icon AOL Buddies xp home sp 2 Machine 3 1536 MB ram 43 processes not sure when BSOD appears. Friend is not available to ask right now no Aol xp home sp2
Hello. Machine #1 has a lot of processes running, but another question. Are the three of you sending emails, files, attachments to one another, or sharing software via any media?
they do not email each other nor share. Only one emails me to any extent. Maybe it is a coincidence and I need to be trouble shooting the one who lives near me
