i'm having numerous problems, i hope someone can please help me…many times when i turn my computer on i get the message that my active desk top has been disabled, i have done none things that it says i may have done for this to have happened..when i try to restore it i get the message: line : 65
char: 1
error: object doent support this action
code:0
url: file:///C:Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner?Application%
20Data/Microsoft/Internet%20Explorer/Desktop.htt

whether i choose to continue to run scripts on this page or not the result is the same, active desk top recovery reappears. i can restore my desktop by changing my background sometimes but other problems persist….when i try to open folders the hour glass appears for an extended period then whatever i'm trying to do it says (not responding)…..other times explorer closes and then everything disappears then reappears…i have went through the steps that are suggested here , but nothing…i ran stopzilla and it resulted in 173 problems: numerous ABetterinteret entried, numerous BHO plugins, virus burst 4 times, Zlob.YU 3 times,Mediamotor, & SearchSquire 11 times…
currently i have no firewall (i know, i know), but every single 1 i've tried to run always results in my being unable to sign into my msn premium as well as my msn messenger….below is my log….thank you all…

i'm editing this post to say that i'm now experiencing disconnection problems, my nessenger signs out from time to time i get the message that Msn has encountered a problem and needs to close…right now i just removed avast & i'm installing the beta of norton internet security 2008

Hello cld

The perils of file-sharing, Im afraid.

Download and run Sysclean
  • Create a folder on your desktop called Sysclean.
  • Go to http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp and download sysclean package to the folder you made.
  • Go to http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp and download the Virus Pattern File (Official Pattern Release) to your desktop.
This file will be called lptXXX.zip (XXX represents the version number)
  • Unzip lptXXX.zip and you'll get the file lpt$vpn.XXX. Read here how to unzip/extract properly.
  • Move the lpt$vpn.XXX to the Sysclean-folder you created on your desktop.
  • Open the sysclean-folder and doubleclick sysclean.com.
  • Check: "Automatically clean or delete detected files".
  • Click scan.
Open your sysclean-folder and copy and paste the contents of sysclean.log in your next reply.

Hi cld

The infected files aren't picture related. They look like music files.
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\New Folder (2)2 Track 2
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\New Folder (2)3 Track 3
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\New Folder (2)6 Track 6
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Music\music1\Top of Charts - 2003
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Music\music1\Top of Charts - 2004

The fact they are all infected by the same trojan could mean something else has infected them. Sysclean is very good with trojans so Im surprised it found nothing. They could be false-positives but for safety sake I would delete the files and maybe even the folders they are in.

It's could be the SD card was the source but where did it get infected? If you have the pictures uploaded and safe, you might want to format it before using it again.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):
O2 - BHO: NCO 2.0 IE BHO - {602ADB0E-4AFF-4217-8AA1-95DAC4DFA408} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {7FEBEFE3-6B19-4349-98D2-FFB09D4B49CA} - (no file)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Have a look in Add/Remove Programs and see if MyWebSearch is in there.
ok mac i did that & deleted those things…i also ran the Stopzilla again…it says that i have zlob, virusburst, sdbot, ABETTERINTERNET,Topsinstall.Happytofindtoolbar, zlob.YU & a number of BHO's….i looked up zlob & found a site that tells how to manually remove which i'll list below…the thing is i dont know how to do it..example deleting a proces…i've seen them running in my task manager but thought they were normal, for example the msmsgs.exe process..i thought it had something to do with msn or messenger….this site i believe has instructions to remove each of the "infections" i listed above…but i dont want to cripple my computer in the process…and as i've stated i dont know how to carry out the instructions…i'm copying the instructions here for you to have a look…i'm also inserting the web address so you can check it out…i should also mention that i have not turned off my computer, i'm afraid to, i cant say how many times i had to restart a few days ago just to get it to function..one other thing, an hour glass appears sporadically, which doesnt usually happen…that makes me feel as though somethings going on that i dont know about…also panda sometimes closes & at other times when i try to download something a box pops up that i'm not connected to the internet when i am..i just close it & all is well (i think) oh btw way i ran their reccomended scan & it found nothing…either Stopzilla is a great program or it gives false results in order to entice a purchase…thanks a million…heres he instructions and below that the link

Note: This manual removal process is difficult and you run the risk of destroying your computer. We recommend that you use SpyHunter's Spyware Scanner.

Remove Zlob processes:
nvctrl.exe
msmsgs.exe

Remove Zlob registry values:

Hi cld

Download and Run ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:

    Here
  • Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
i mac below you'll find what you asked for…i was thinking due to the level of your expertise your machine is probably clean…maybe you should try Stopzilla (its a free download on this site) if you get much of what i get its probably a marketing ploy….

Hi cld

Ive never used Stopzilla and thought it was a good program, but you just prompted me to do a little research. Do a Google search and type in the phrase "Stopzilla False positives" and then decide for yourself whether to keep it. The scans we have done on your computer have shown you to be clean now.

I would delete Combofix and the Qoobox folder it creates on the C:\ drive.

This is my usual speech for when you are clean, which you appear to be.

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable
and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

    Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

    or

    Windows XP System Restore Guide

Re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine.
This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection.
You should also scan your computer with this program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Using IE-SPYAD to help block unwanted sites and activities

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
