On the weekend, I installed an upgrade MB into my system (Old MB lost mouse and floppy port inputs), and I have been able to resolve most of the woes, including 'NTLDR not found' and windows blue screen of death. Last problem that is dogging me, is the failure of the Ethernet driver to activate. Device manager says 'lack of resources' for it. I strongly suspect that the old driver from the previous board is getting in before the correct driver. Old board was a Gigabyte Intel board, and the new one is a Jetway AM2 board. Any suggestions on where to look? Thanks.
In Device Manager, "Remove" the current Ethernet Card Driver. Then Reboot your machine. Windows will "Find new Hardware" and attempt to "Install software for new hardware." Depending upon your EtherNet Adapter card, XP may be able to install a workable Driver. or You may have to use another machine to download the appropriate Driver from the manufacturer's site. These drivers are usually small enough to Save to Floppy, or you can burn it to a CD, then install on your machine. Best Regards
I have done all that to no avail; XP just reloads and ends up in the same spot. One thought, was to disable the ethernet in bios, delete the Intel drivers, and then re-start. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
Go one step further. If available, remove the Ethernet Adapter Driver via Add/Remove If not, Remove Ethernet Adapter Driver via Device manager Shut down your machine without rebooting. Physically remove the Ethernet Adapter. Reboot The Network connection should no longer exist. If any remnants of the adapter exist remove them.
