Please Help - sfcfdmsc.exe problem

Hi, i urgently need help with one of my PC.

Problem:
My A/V software detected this sfcfdmsc.exe but was not able to clean, remove or quarantine.
First i thought it's the limitation of free edition, so i bought the Windows Life OneCare, and worse, it did not detect this sfcfdmsc.exe, but the firewall detact it trying to access the internet and i've put a block to it.

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.


Next, launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the Quote Box below to it. Don't forget to include REGEDIT4.
Save in: Desktop

Click: Save

On the desktop, doubleclick fix.reg and allow it to run. Let it merge.


1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.


Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Thanks a million for the help.
I've followed your instruction and here's the new HJT log.

One thing that i've notice though, my PC sometimes become very slow and not responsive, i've looked into the Task Manager and found that this service, svchost.exe by system is taking up 99 CPU. Any advice?

Run Hijackthis click >"config" then "misc tools" >"delete file on reboot"
(exact spelling counts!!! so dont browse to the file)
Copy/Paste the bolded line below into the File name box then click Open, one at a time of cource.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sfcfdmsc.exe


Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: sfcfdmsc - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sfcfdmsc.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"




Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
