I have apparently contracted some sort of common hijacker. I have McAfee virus scan, but that doesn't work. Spy Alert, Ad Aware, SpyDoctor and Spy Bot have all been tried, but they stop right in the middle of the scan. I also tried HouseCall, but to no avail.

Can someone look at my logfile from HiJack This and in layman terms advise me what to do? Please, in very generic terms. Thanks

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Download/install APM

Run APM

Click on each item in the upper window

Then look in the lower window. Check to see which processes are using these DLL's:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mljjh.dll

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pmkjj.dll

Post back letting me know which ones are using those DLL's.
:)

BE SURE TO KILL ONLY THESE FILES!!!

Probably not all of them will be present. This is OK.

Next double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mljjh.dll

then click the kill button.

If you see any of the files listed below kill them as well.

Files to look for:
————————–
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pmkjj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hjjlm.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hjjlm.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hjjlm.ini
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hjjlm.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hjjlm.bak1

BE SURE TO KILL ONLY THESE FILES!!!

Probably not all of them will be present. This is OK.

Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run Hijack This! and place a check beside each of the following.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkjj.dll

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {52B1DFC7-AAFC-4362-B103-868B0683C697} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mljjh.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: mljjh - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mljjh.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmkjj - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pmkjj.dll

Now click Fix checked and close HijackThis.

Now double-click on the vundo.reg file that you saved on your desktop earlier and allow it to merge with the registry.

Step 4:

On the desktop, open the "killme.txt" file with Notepad.

Then copy the all file names in the "killme.txt" to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing C (hold the key down, then press C):

Close "killme.txt".

Double click on Killbox.exe and then check the Delete on reboot button.

In Killbox, click File (in the upper left of Killbox), and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

After the reboot, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
Here are the files with the mljjh.dll, pmkjj.dll c:\windows\system32\winlogo.exe (both) c:\windows\explorer.exe (both) c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (both) c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.ext (both) c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe (pmkjj.dll)
It didn't work. I went to Safe Mode and everything just locked up. I tried over and over again, and could never get my desktop to come up so that I could try anything. Can't I just try to kill these things in normal mode?
The "desktop" is there, it's just that it doesn't have much (anything?) on it.

Try this:

Boot in "safe mode".

Then naviagate to this folder:
(use Start –> My computer –> Local Disk (C:), etc.)

C:\Documents and Settings\\Desktop

The "FixVundo" registry file should be on your desktop to use.

To navigate to the other programs you need to use go to:

Start –> My computer –> Local Disk (C:)

And navigate as required.

Does this work for you?

Read thru:

this post

They had the same situation.

You MUST do this fix in "safe mode".
It won't bring up a desktop. The screen is completely black with Safe Mode written in each corner. There is nothing to see, and it just locks up.
Use Start from the taskbar to access everything (as described earlier).

I don't know what else to say…..

The "desktop" is there, it's just not what you're used to seeing.
:)
Thank you. Here is the log file.
