Last week, i downloaded 2 installers which is around 500MB each (1GB Total) to install a software… I had around 3GB disk space at this point.. After i installed the software, i got around 1.5GB disk space left. Since i successfully installed the software, I deleted the 2 installers.. After i deleted it, i check my disk space.. It was still stuck at 1.5GB.. I tried to restart the computer… And to recycle another file (Just in case it's still in the recycle bin) but no luck… This actually happened to me before.. But i won't explain more further.
You can press the Shift-Key when using the Delete function to bi-pass the Recycle Bin.
(not recommended unless you really know that deleting the file "forever" is what you want to do)
Since you're attempting to Delete these "apparently unnecessary" files, you are probably already aware that having only 3GB of FreeSpace on a Hard Drive is bound to cause you all kinds of problems with your machine.
Do you regularly clean up your disk by removing Temp and Temporary Internet Files? You should.
Do you regularly Defrag your Hard Drive?
With only 3GB of FreeSpace, you may even have difficulty Defragging. (will probably take a very long time)
Please give us a better idea of what you are trying to accomplish.
In general, your machine will perform better if you can free-up at least 25% of the Hard Drive.
I deleted some files lately… it increased to 9GB… Last week, i deleted a 300MB software to the recycle bin.. but it seems i didn't gain 300MB of freespace again.. It's happening again..
deleting 5KB or 5MB or 5GB dosnt mean you are going to gain that much back in free hd space. you say you are deleting software. always run the uninstaller from the add/remove programs panel first and even these will leave traces of files on your computer.
