Hey fellas I have been having this strange problem lately. I run this program called ConvertXtoDVD which is a DVD burning software and since it takes along time I decided to listen to some music. Well, as soon as I double click a song, and just before realplayer opens, the computer restarts. This happens all the time. People tell me it could be my CPU overheating but when I did this, my temp was 50C. I have seen my temps go up to 60C without any problems. Here are my system specs:
AMD 64 3500 newcastle
DFI Lanparty NF4 mobo
2 gig dual channel ram
bfg 7800 gt
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a good strong power supply
I have 550W power supply. By the way I disabled the "Automatic restart" feature in My Computer and I got a blue screen with the following info:

You can "google" Error Codes.
Here's the one you are reporting:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315335
Download and run Memtest86 (also obtainable via google)
Running Memtest86 requires a Floppy Disk to load Memtest86.
Best Regards
Edit:
Just a thought…….
You have lots of RAM, but there error indicates there is a problem with it.
Make sure you have it installed in Slot 1 and Slot3
(or the appropriate Dual Channel slots for your board)

Channels should be color coded, however, if the ram your running is not out of the same "lot" it wont run dual channel. As dough said, make sure your ram is seated correctly and in the slots accordingly. Second, make sure all your fans are working (specially the one in the power supply). Once thats done, Boot to BIOS, then reset the BIOS to its default settings. Reboot, and post back if you have any more issues.

Ok so I did a memtest for about 31 hours and there was no error so I had to cancel it caus I don't know when it would stop. I guess my memory is fine. I think it is a software issue since it happens just when I play a music while doing something that stresses the CPU like burning DVD .

How much free space do you have on your Hard Drive?
And when was the last time you defragged?

How much free space do you have on your Hard Drive?
And when was the last time you defragged?
68 GB used
43 BG empty
I defragged about a month ago but will do it again tonight to see if it works.
suhail
OK I did a defrag and I still have the same problem.
Doug
Can we presume that your DVD burning procedure runs without problem when it is run without anything else running?
Can we presume that RealPlayer plays tunes for you with no problem, except when also operating the DVD burning procedure?
I wonder what would happen if you used MS MediaPlayer to play the tunes while burning the DVDs, instead of RealPlayer?
Just a thought.

You are right on the dot!!!!!!!!!!!!! ConvertXtoDVD runs fine with windows media player but not with realplayer. However just recently I was burning with Nero without anything else running, and all of a sudden I got the blue screen.
Doug
You may "like" RealPlayer, and may even use it from time to time.
And of course, there are some file formats that run best with RealPlayer. However, I'd follow this clue up further by Uninstalling RealPlayer completely, and then run the Burning tools a few times and see what the result is.
There is an alternate to RealPlayer, which might be less prone to conflicts.
It's called RealPlayer Alternative. You can google for it if you have the need.
While you're at it, if you use QuickTime, there is a similar QuickTime Alternative available.
There are multiple unrelated examples of "conflicts" between branded softwares that interfere with a desired application. The old EasyCD 5.0 is a common example.
Please keep us posted with your progress.
Best Regards

OK somebody from another forum told me that it could be a virus problem. I notice on the toolbar there is something that says "System Alert". When I click it, I get this:

Your log has indications of the smitfraud/spysheriff infection.

Grinler at BleepingComputers, has developed a self-help fix for the Antivermins garbage you are seeing in your toolbar as: System Alert: hxxp:/// xxx.antivermin (dot) com/BlahBlah numbers
This is a Rogue/Suspect application using scare tactics and false positive and should NOT be installed.
So far, you may not have succumbed to the trick of installing it. But you have other problems with the Log.
"How To Remove Antivermins, Antiverminser, Or Antivermeans (removal Instructions)"
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic69886.html
If it were me finding those unwanted symptoms, I would immediately post my HJT Log over into the Malware Removal Forum for assistance from an Expert in cleaning it up.
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showforum=27
NOTE: Before you post your Log, MOVE HJT.exe to its own PERMANENT Folder, so that backups can be saved.
Make it look something like ———> C:\hijackthis\hjt.exe
Run your hjt.exe again from that location, save the log, and copy/paste it to the Malware Removal Forum.
NOTE of Caution and Care for other TC Members:
Do Not post "clickable" links to Malware and Rogue Suspect sites: (the antivermin link)
Notice that when I referred to it above I did so with broken text so it could not be "clicked" by an unsuspecting Member.
Best Regards
