Hello, This is my first post to your site so I hope you can help me. I am having the same problem as many with the big yellow question mark in the Other Devices and Multimedia Audio Controller column. I'm not sure what kind of information you will need. Here is some that I have..if you need more just tell me what. Windows XP Home Edition CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1666 MHz MOtherboard name: MSI KM4M-L (MS-6734 v1) (3 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN) BIOS Type: Award (1/16/04) Multimedia: Audio Adapter VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller Please be gentle and speak slowly because I can navigate around the internet fairly well, but when it comes to the technical part of a computer, I am soooo stupid. Any help will be appreciated.
Hi, Sorry to hear of the problem with your computer, if you have a yellow mark against your audio device it usually means there is a problem with the correct device driver being installed or even no device driver at all. Presumably your sound is not working at all. (if it is working please do NOT follow these instructions but post back for further advice) Try this, but you will need to be connected to the internet. 1 Click on Start 2 Click on Run in the white box that appears tye in: Devmgmt.msc 3 Click on Ok 4 From the list that appears double click on the audio device with the yellow mark against it. (you are looking for a tab that says "Driver" or Update Driver" as we are going to install or update the driver which hopefully will get your sound going. 5 Click on "update driver" 6 Allow Windows to access the Internet and find the correct driver for you. 7 Follow onscreen directions 8 When all has completed and the driver is installed, reboot your machine and tell us how you got on 9 There may be some cofiguration settings that need adjusting before your sound comes back, but we can do this after you have installed/updated the driver.
