After much song and dance, I finally got Service Pack 2 installed. Woo, that took forever. Thank you so very much Ken, you don't know how much I appreciate all you've done for me over the last few days. If you're ever in Missouri I could offer you some free therapy in exchange - sorry, but my soul was already sold to afford graduate school. And you know, just in case you contract Post-Traumatic Stress from this job. ^^ I have AVG up and running and it is going to stay there come hell, high water, or needing to pay for it. Going through the rest of these lovely programs, and putting up a nice shield between me and the nasty internet. Thank you again.
Garney, :D

Thanks for the therapy offer, but after 67 years I appear to be pretty stable :D

AVG is about the best program out for removing this garbage, its yours to keep after the trial, you can still check for updates, run scans and remove what it finds, you will just lose the background guard feature, so its your call what to do with it.

Wanted to add another thing, whenever you download a program, when you click on Install, read the EULA End Users License Agreement, if it says you give them the right to install additional software for marketing purposes or something like that, don't install it.

Glad things are well,

Take care,
Ken :D
Is this ZoneAlarm serious? It says it has blocked 10963 intrustions since installation, and I've not even had it installed 12 hours yet! Is that normal? Is that really how many things were getting into my computer? I've never had a firewall, no one ever told me much about them except they are a pain when attempting to connect to things, so I assumed they were just a nuisance really. It's nice to be protected, I see that now, but over ten thousand intrustion attempts? That's just overwhelming.
Most of them are harmless, you can set it not to notify you. What you want to do is set it so that whatever wants to access the internet asks you permission, then look it over and grant it or not.
