My log follows. I'm using AdAware and I find that popups that I need are blocked, so I turned it off because browsing became so difficult. Now I seem to have some more spyware. I tried switching to Firefox, but missed some of the explorer features so I switched back. Maybe that caused problems? I have both installed, but I use explorer most of the time.
Thanks again for your help!

I'm replying to my post, as suggested because it has been a week since my post. Looks like everyone is really busy, but some more recent posts have replies so maybe mine is lost. Please see post/log below. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Hello jewelbc. :wavey:

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

Optional items to check with HijackThis for improved performance.
Resource hog that launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. Some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it isn't required either way.
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

The following activeX controls will reinstall when(and if) you revisit that website, UNLESS you know they are from a safe source, check to remove.

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.

Here is my previous post. I followed instructions and following is my log following the fix and reboot. I noticed from the start-up scan of AdAware that I still have cookies. I'm not sure why they're not being blocked.

Thanks again for your help.

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.

ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

Here are three very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3
AdAware SE v1.05
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE
A2 Squared

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Thanks so much. Everything is fine and I downloaded the programs you recommended–including a wireless firewall that we didn't have for our laptop connection.
Your help is great!
Julie
