Hi there, is the sound onboard the motherboard, if so, have you checked it is enabled in the BIOS, or, have you got onboard sound and added a soundcard yourself which could be conflicting with the onboard sound. Failing any of the above options I would run a system file checker to check that none of your protected system files are corrupted for any reason.
To start a scan, click on the start menu -> select run -> Type in the following - sfc /scannow (notice the gap between the scf and the / )

Hello, thank you for that, now the question is, what am I supposed to see there? and what am I looking for, when I entered the command I saw a small window that was processing something however nothings else once it was done that was it, did not show me any reports or logs.
My pc is a pavilion 720n, and it was working fine never opened it only to add some more memory a year a go.

Hi There
Look in device manager, (right click my computer -> select properties -> Hardware tab -> Click on Device Manager)
Is the soundcard showing in there but with an exclamation mark ? If so what error does it give (Driver error/Recourse problem)
As for SFC Scannow everything sounds as thought it went smooth, It will have checked your protected files to make sure that none was not any corrupt in any way ruling out any problem there.

Just for the record and for anyone else reading this topic.
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{random string of numbers and letters here} are system restore files and you should not tamper with them. If you are getting prompts about some files in there being recognized as "virus", "trojan" or something of the sort, the best thing to do is get the computer cleaned by posting a Hijack This log here at the forums for helpers to help you make sure you are "malware" free. Be sure to mention the system restore files. You will need to "flush" the restore files if any infection was found.
BTW, hammer51, I like that quote in your sig… Illegitimis non carborundum
Cheers
