terminate a program with the task manager

Do you remember what program?

Please do the following:

STARTDRECK

Download StartDreck

Unzip to its own folder and start the program:
Press 'Config'
Press 'Unmark All'

Check the following boxes only:
Registry -> Run Keys
System/drivers> Running processes
Press 'Ok'

Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application)

Post (reply) with the log in this thread and a fresh hijackthis log.
By the way, I also seem to have things running in my processes tab that I didn't start (i.e. winword.exe)

The program I had to terminate was Outlook. I was trying to check my email and it was freezing up the whole system. Another thing. firefox now only opens up a minimized window. Can't get it to open up full. And sometimes it crashes out instead of loading the Homepage.

Startdreck freezes up as soon as I load it. I can't even click Config. The program forces my resources up near 100 which is ridiculous for a little Windows application.

Here's the Hijackthis log:

Right-click the desktop icon you use to open Firefox (or go to the Start => All Programs=> Mozilla Firefox and right click that) and select Properties, in the Run: box select Normal Window, click Apply, then OK, and you should be set. The Winword.exe is part of Microsoft Office. I will have to try to find more about the Outlook problem. I am guessing that it is probably Outlook glitch and not related to malware though.
Yes, I know that winword.exe is Word. The problem is it had started on its own in task manager's processes tab. Apparently now also, my volume control tells me I have no active mixer devices available. I'm not questioning your judgement by any means, but these things tell me there is something bigger than just Outlook wrong here. THanks
Please do this:

STEP 1.
======
Silent Runners

Download Silentrunners.zip from here and unzip it a new folder on your desktop.
  • Run the SilentRunners.vbs file.
  • You will receive a prompt: "Do you want to skip supplementary searches?" - click NO
  • If your antivirus has a script blocker, you will get a warning asking if you want to allow SilentRunners.vbs to run.
  • This script is not malicious so please allow it.
  • A text file will appear in the folder - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once the "All Done!" prompt flashes up, open the text file and copy & paste it in your next reply.
Ok, here's the Silent Runners logfile:

Hello tinpanalley,

I cannot find anything in your logs and I do not believe your problem is malware-related now. I am not doubting that you have problems. I would recommend to register and post your problem in the appropriate Microsoft Outlook newsgroup.

http://www.outlookexchange.com/articles/ho…wsgroupinfo.asp

I have relied on the Microsoft newsgroups in the past for help with specific Microsoft products. Be sure to post what version of Office you have along with your description of your problem.

I am sorry that I do not know the answer to your Outlook problem. I do not know about your volume control either.

Regards,
Susan
