My hyjack this log and Fixwareout report

This nasty little trogan fired up in Firefox last week - JUPK.COM. It reset our browser to direct all searches to a porn search platform but not exclusively porn. Searching the computer for malware showed up nothing. I finally found out via web searches that it had altered the ISP to redirect it. I altered it back again (setting obtain an internet address automatically) and I were up and running again. I then thought we had better run a cleaner. I ran Ccleaner, Spybot, AVG, Registry Mechnic and Spysweeper.

Internet warnings generally advise that JUPK.COM can leave other stuff on the machine. Spybot and Spysweeper found nothing.

I then ran PC-Cillin. PC-Cillin found adware_bhot_sbsoft, tspy_wren & tspy_small plus at least 15 vulnerabilities. However the after about 10 minutes or so the browser closes knocking off PC-Cillin and the spyware remains on the machine. We tried 5 runs, 4 in Firefox and 1 in IE. Same outcome.

Have not tried it in safe mode because safe mode seems to be disabled. This may be an unrelated glitch on the machine.

A search for tspy_small directs us to Trendmicro home of PC-Cillin. This is odd! We emailed them. They have not replied. Odder still!

My computer is slow but running okay. Word crashes occasionally for no apparent reason usually when I have written something brilliant!! We have a AVG, ZA and Spysweeper running all the time so maybe that is why it is slow but would like to be sure.

That’s it. If you geniuses can help I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks,
Malcolm.

Hi Little Eagle,

Thanks for coming back to me.

The computer is slow to boot up but I do have a lot running so that may be down to me.
RAM is running at 395 Meg just to stand still. I have 512 Meg Chipset so the PC continually addresses the hard drive to function. It didn't used to do that so much.

I have AVG, ZAlarm and Spysweeper and Skype all active in the background.
Task Manager shows 50 processes running at startup.

This is a copy of my current HijackThis Log.
Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Malcolm

We will need to disable TeaTimer for now.
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following,
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: IeCaptureBho Object - {7c1ce531-09e9-4fc5-9803-1c2956615786} - blank (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - Startup: PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Hi Little Eagle,

All done. Power reg sheduler has dumped a backup file on the desk top.
What was that file?
And when I logged of and on I received 2 Reg changes. Plaxo (denied)
Teatimer (denied) Ran hijackthis. Log below.
Presumably I should now reintrate (check) Spybot Resident?
You seem to rate Spybot over Spysweeper? Is that so?

Thanks once again.

Regards,
Malcolm

yes

You seem to rate Spybot over Spysweeper? Is that so?IMHO one is as good as another. Spybot cost less. ;)

Log looks fine.
One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus or spyware infection.
There can be backups made in the System Restore folder.
Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus or spyware removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account
which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because
you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
