Hello,

Thank you so much for providing this service, it's nice to know I'm not alone in this. I too have been vicitmized by the JUPK/BXNU trojan, and I have executed the self help that you posted in these forums. Below please find my HiJackthis log and my FixWareOut logs.

The computer seems to be better, but reading the posts of others, I know that something sinister may still be lurking. This happend when my son accidentally clicked a pop up yesterday. This took him to JUPK.com, and whenever I attempted to go to my home page-which was BBC.com, It would route there instead or to BXNU.com . I changed the homepage to CNN and it worked fine, in fact, I cannot find another page that redirects, but I suspect that there are others that I don't know about it. After executing the self help, I can go back to bbc.com for the moment, but I would appreciate further guidance from the experts. Here are my logs:

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
MyWebSearchWB
MyWebSearch
MyWebSearchWB\bar
MyWebSearch\bar
Viewpoint Manager
P2P Networking

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these files if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSFGM.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMUUT.EXE

No need to download again but please run it. Sometimes it takes 4-5 times running Fixwareout and the flushdns to remove the bad 017's

Double Click Fixwareout.exe and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text that will open (report.txt) Please save this file, you'll need to post it with a new HijackThis log.

Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns
If you are typing this in, note the space between the g /f
It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Note: Do this for all Network Connections
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi LD Tate, I have executed your instructions to the letter. The computer appears to be fine. Boot up time was a little slow on the reboots, but appears to be improving with each reboot. I can detect no problems at this time, but again, I know something could still be lurking….I'll leave myself in your hands to determine if that's tru or not :P

Here are the updated logs.

Good Morning LD Tate,

The computer still appears to be functioning well, I have had no occurences of the redirect since I did the self help. I have followed your instructions to the letter again. The files MyWebSearchWB\Bar and MyWebSearch were not present when I went to remove programs. I left WeatherBug because you indicated it was optional.

Here is my hijackthis log:

Good Job

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them.
Spywareblaster,
Spywareguard.
IE Spyads
They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening.

Also get a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein
Thank you so much LD Tate!!! :D Per your directions I have created a clean restore point, and both C and D Drives are back to "Monitoring" in the system restore window. I have re-hidden the file extensions for known file types and protected operating system files. A couple of questions on adware/spyware protection: You can probably see that I am running AOL Safety and security center. That comes with virus/adware/spyware/firewall protection, and I have them on the medium-high setting. I also have a broadband router, and I'm going to turn up the security on that a bit, I need to read through the manual a bit to determine how best to do that - so I have both a hardware and a software firewall. Can I run Spywareblaster/Spywareguard/IE Spyads with my AOL? Are Adware & Spybot different from those three, or are they in addition to those three? Do you think that My AOL security is sufficient, or do I need to get another security program (I get virus/adware updates almost every day from them)? Do you have any suggestions on what I might want to set my router to? Thanks again for your help. Payday is Monday, and you can bet I'll be making a donation. For anyone else reading this, I would urge you to contribute to keep this going. I called Geeks on Call about this problem, and they quoted me a price of $269 to come out and look at it, even though it is a known problem. Thanks again, and I'll look for your one last reply no those questions. Gratefully YOurs, Mark

I would get IE Spyads.

Are Adware & Spybot different from those three, or are they in addition to those three?

They are different and you can run them manually. With the addition of IE Spyads, your AOL and Firewall, I wouldn't worry about Adware & Spybot.

Do you think that My AOL security is sufficient, or do I need to get another security program (I get virus/adware updates almost every day from them)?

I think you're OK here.

Do you have any suggestions on what I might want to set my router to?

Sorry I can't help you there. Check the manual and their online web site
