I shoulhave come here first but as a newbie to spyware problems I probably made some mistakes trying to fix it so another question would be will using restore cd fix registry and fix problem with browser redirect? I downloaded and used Lavasoft ad aware, Spybot, and AVG and found a lot and deleted through their programs and then uninstalled those programs. After rebooting I ran HijackThis and like a dummy fixed the second and third RO because they looked suspicious so now I have a new second RO with an equal sign with nothing after it. Page not found comes up immediately still if I mistype url address and gets redirected to http://jupk.com which redirects it to some unsettling link pages. Any help would be greatly appreciated so here is my logfile:

Welcome to the forums. I will be more than happy to help you work on your problems.
The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!
Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

I will have a look at your log and be back to you as soon as I can.
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{74864474-AE3B-4CB2-AB56-BC9C25928EDE}: NameServer = 85.255.116.131 85.255.112.206

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

If you have internet connection problems do this:

Please go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.
Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

In your next reply I would like to see:
  • A new HJT log
  • The report from Fix Wareout
Thank you for your response. Between me posting and receiving your response I downloaded ad aware and spybot and ran again. Ad aware found the typical MRU list that always come back and spy bot found nothing after I quarenteened and deleted MRU list in ad aware. After rebooting I found your post and ran hijackthis and the 017 line with the name server= numbers was no longer there for hijackthis to fix so I finished doing as you instructed. There are now four folders with wierd names in recycle bin that were apparently created through running your suggested program. Can I delete them? Can I donate by mail? I didn't have a problem connecting to internet but I decided to do what you suggested with Tcpip and noticed there was the wrong radio button selected with the same numbers that were in the 017 line that you previously noticed so I picked the right radio button and clicked ok twice and the hour glass was on for a few minutes and then closed out boxes and rebooted. Here is HijackThis log and Fix Wareout report:

Hi, in my last reply is the information you asked for. Start page went back to MSN so I reset start page to yahoo and the good news so far is when I mistype url page not found comes up through google search instead of jupk. Is there a way to get IE default page not found back? Thanks so much for the help so far!!!
You need to update SunJava.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the [external image: Posted Image] icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

jusched.exe
________________

You have jusched.exe running at Startup. It checks with Sun's Java updates site to see if newer Java versions are available.
This program is not required to start automatically. You can do this manually by visiting or just run the Java Plug-In Control Panel.
It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up necessary resources.
It may be worthwhile to fix it with HijackThis. This is the item to fix in HijackThis:
The line to fix is:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_07\bin\jusched.exe

  • Post 1 HJT more log and let me know if everything seems to be running OK.
Hi, I updated java as you advised. Running fine other than mistyped url brings up page not found through google instead of default IE. That probably is the result from me fixing in HijackThis the two RO lines originally like a dummy before I found your forum so I don't know if that can be fixed. I found the snail mail adress for donating since that is the only way I can do it. Thanks again for the help you have given me!!!

Open HJT
Click on Open misclaneous tools section

Look for JUST the RO lines you removed.

HJT does not make backups of all lines so always use caution when using with this tool. In this case it does.

Post another HJT log.
Great news ! [external image: Posted Image]

Your log now appears to be clean.

Download and install CCleaner from here.
NOTE: Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation. IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option .

If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.

Now open the program and click on Run Cleaner
( Do not use the Issues block to clean anything with this program. It is for experts only and it is risky).

You may opt out of cleaning cookies. If you clean them alls you will have to do is retype names and passwords for places you visit on the net 1 time.
If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla
I clean all my cookies out from time to time. It's not that big a deal if you remember passwords.

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from connecting to malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1, which is your local address. If you use a proxy server, or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.
You can download the MVPS Hosts File and see a HOSTS file tutorial here :

Thanks again for the reply. Because the Macafee was a trial version that came with the computer and was getting weak without buying it I chose to put on Norton Antivirus with updates instead which is now good for a year. Followed advice on tools/options /security/internet/custom. Downloaded Zone Alarm installed then couldn't browse internet. Uninstalled Zone Alarm rebooted and can now browse. Wondering if xp firewall being on at same time or Norton antivirus conflicts with Zone Alarm since they both have email scanning. Any ideas?
Having two firewalls running isn't a good idea.
Try disabling windows firewall. ( it's certainly the weaker/less protection than the other)
Zone Alarm also has a setting on it. I think it is on the top left of it's main window that has
Internet security lock. Make sure the icon has the lock unlocked to connect to the net.

To disable windows firewall:

1. Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
2. On the General tab, click Off (not recommended), and then click OK.

Let me know how you make out.
That Worked!!! Zone Alarm now lets me browse since I disabled xp default firewall and then reinstalled Zone Alarm. Thanks so much for the help! :D
