Another JUPK attack - totally disabled!

6 min read

Looking for the outcome? Ask AI

Hi, sorry to ask for your help, espescially as I'm a complete novice on computers, but … like others here, I also have an attack from JUPK.com and I think it's totally disabled my PC - eg if I try to access the internet then everything I do is redirected to the JPUK webpages (mostly semi-porn smut, yikes!!) :( .

I'm desperate to fix it, otherwise I will lose 5 years work on that PC, but what can I do??

I've read the post from LDTate ie "JPUK.Com Self Help" and his first instruction is to download "FixwareOut" -perhaps I'm being dense, but how can I download that when JPUK is redirecting me away from any website except it's own??

I should explain that I'm typing this post from another PC (not the infected PC). Why? Well because I'm assuming the infected PC will stop me accessing or searching for any website except the JPUK redirections?? … eg Google seaches don't work & nor does directly typing an address into the internet address bar, ie whatever you type it just redirects to JPUK smut pages.

The infected PC has HiJackThis on the desktop, so I can run a HiJackThis log, but again how can I post that here if JPUK is redirecting me to it's own webpages, ie won't JPUK stop me from accessing your forum?

To summarise - please help, I must fix that PC or I will lose everything.

I could try using LDTate's instructions to change the TCP/IP setting…should I begin by doing that??

Thanks, Ian.
Try this. Then see if you can do the self help parts. Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns Now lets check some settings on your system. Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections Then right click on your Default Connection Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL Left click on Properties Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks
Hi LDTate – first, a big “thank you” for replying and trying to help (especially as I see lots of people are asking for help over JUPK.Com).

OK I tried the first of your instructions – I reset my TCP/IC settings to “Obtain DNS Servers Automatically”, then rebooted, then ran the few anti-spyware programs that I have (ie Spycatcher, Spybot, and CleanUp) all of which reported no new problems.

Then I rebooted & connected to the internet, and now the redirection problem has gone (at least temporarily!) and I’m back to my normal BBC homepage with Google working correctly.

But two things – (1) I expect this JUPK thing has either embedded further problems and expect it may soon return. So what should I do now? I can try to follow your Self Help as you suggested, and I’ll do that. But should I post here a log from HighJackThis?

Second thing, (2) - I could not follow your instruction to “cut/paste iconfig /flushdns” because when I click START, RUN, and type CMD …I get a dialog box with a path & a prompt ie C:\Documents & Settings \ Admistrator_ , but I could not see anywhere to litteraly cut/paste “iconfig /flushdns", or do you mean I reply to that path prompt by simply typing “iconfig /flushdns” ?? I didn’t type it because I didn’t want to screw things up any further.

OK, what do I do next to keep things safe - I'll follow your Self Help for JUPK, how do I use iconfig /flushdns? Should I post a log from HighJackThis?

Many thanks, Ian.

iconfig /flushdns", or do you mean I reply to that path prompt by simply typing

At the command prompt (CMD) you can just type it in. Note the space between g /f

Should I post a log from HighJackThis?

Yes
Hi LDT, once again thanks for your help (really appreciate it).

OK, below is the Hijackthis log which I ran this morning (ie after fixing the TCP/IP settings, which still seem to be OK).

What do you think? Anything I should remove?

Cheers, Ian.

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

I suggest you do this:

You need To disable SpySweeper, it can stop our fix.
SpySweeper
To disable SpySweeper Shields
  • Open SpySweeper.
  • Click Shield Settings on the right
(or Shields on the left, depending what screen you're on).
  • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
  • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
  • Click Hosts File and uncheck all items.
  • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Close SpySweeper. After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.
.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wersds.exe] C:\WINNT\system32\doriot.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wersds.exe] C:\WINNT\system32\doriot.exe

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

No need to download again but please run it. Sometimes it takes 4-5 times running Fixwareout and the flushdns to remove the bad 017's

Double Click Fixwareout.exe and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text that will open (report.txt) Please save this file, you'll need to post it with a new HijackThis log.

Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns
If you are typing this in, note the space between the g /f
It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Note: Do this for all Network Connections
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi LDT, OK…here’s a point by point to reply to your instructions (many thanks!) –

Spy Sweeper – I already deleted it this morning, ie before I got your post, hope that’s OK? Reason was, since the JUPK attack Spy Sweeper had malfunctioned and was hanging-up my PC every time I re-booted.

Current Computer Behavior – it’s working normally now (except for Spy Sweeper, deleted as described above). No sign of JUPK problem now :) .

Highjackthis – ran it & put a check mark against the 6 entries you listed, and hit “Fix Checked”. All ran OK.

Fixwareout – Ran it & saved the file “report.txt”. The resulting file is posted below.

Click, Start, CMD, ipconfig /flushdns – did this & it appears to work successfully with result saying “Successfully Flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.”.

TCP/IP settings – checked these and they’re all still correctly set to “Obtain DNS Servers Automatically”.

Highjackthis – ran highjackthis again, and resulting file is posted below.

I really do appreciate you helping me with this! OK, here are the results from Fixwareout, and then from Highjackthis -

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
