Hi from a real novice I have been guided to you for help. When I log on to the internet I am diverted to one of a number of sites run by a company called JUPK instead of Google which is set as my home page. What do I need to do to remedy this situation. I use regularly updated versions of AVG anti virus, Spybot, AdAware and Windows Defender but can find nothing to repair. I use Windows XP Home and Internet Explorer 7. Help please in an ABC style considering my lack of technical ability. Thanks in advance Chris Taylor
Hi Have followed instructions in self help as advised - it took ages as everything loads so slowly at the moment. Everything seemed to go as topic said and I have attempted to send the log as requested. Not sure if I did it correctly !!! Can only find a few sites on internet that will load at all and these load very slowly. When I switch off PC I have to do it twice so it actually switches off - it never used to do this !!! Thanks for help so far Chris
Hi I think my lack of technical knowledge is making this more difficult than it should be - sorry I have located the Fixwareout and Hijackthis reports you need. The cut and paste options in the Edit option on both files are grayed out so cannot use them. How do I use your ADDREPLY button to send these files - I cannot see how to link the files to the text Thanks Chris
Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here plese use the [Add Reply] button below.
Hi Have followed instructions to post file - have assumed that as I can find no paste option on this reply page that using the addreply button adds copied file to the reply. Thanks Chris
When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy>
Then open the Add Reply Button below, when the window opens Right Click anywhere in the widow and select paste . Once pasted, select Add Reply.
Hi

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these Files if listed:

No need to download again but please run it. Sometimes it takes 4-5 times running Fixwareout and the flushdns to remove the bad 017's

Double Click Fixwareout.exe and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text that will open (report.txt) Please save this file, you'll need to post it with a new HijackThis log.

Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns
If you are typing this in, note the space between the g /f
It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Note: Do this for all Network Connections
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi

Does it help to know that Waitrose is my ISP

OK. That's what I needed to know

lets see if this will help speed it up.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

NOTE: To be extra safe you can choose to only remove the items in RED.
Hi Have used ERUNT and Regseeker as recommended. Regseeker found quite a lot which it seems it has safely removed and I only had to run it twice. The very slow loading however remains and it still takes up to 5 munutes to load this page and many sites will still not load at all. Thanks Chris
