hey, iv just sucessfully cleared a virus through the HJT forum, however iv ben left with a few alterations/problems to windows left by the virus, i was unable to acess task manager via "ctrl alt del" command, the guy talking me through the malware removal sucessfully helped me sort this though, however i have also been left unable to "right click" he was unable to advise and suggested i come here.
right clicking works in text windows etc, such as the one im typing in now, to desplay, copy, paste etc. but not over any file, folder "white space" in the My computer pages, ie on the C drive screen.. or on my desktop background area.
i was advised to type a command in START/ RUN however on clicking start i was unable to find the run command.. there for i suspect the virus had taken care of this as well.
it was suggested it could be a problem in the regestry?
hope you can help

Give this a try from your Desktop:
Right-Click on the START button, next…
Select - Properties - This displays to display Taskbar and Start Menu Properties panel, next
Select the the "Customize" (button) to display Customize Start Menu panel, next….
Select the Advanced(tab), next…….
Scroll through the Start Menu Item listing……….
You will see the item RUN Command with a box in front of it. The box is probably empty, next
Place a checkmark(tick) in the box in front of RUN Command. next…..
click OK, then Apply, then OK to close out these menus.
Now when you Click on Start, the "Run" command item will appear.
NEXT:
It is probably a good idea to check all of your Operating System for missing or corrupted files, using Windows File Protection - System File Checker
System File Checker will scan your Windows Operating System and automatically replace any missing or corrupt XP files. (you will be prompted to insert your XP installation CD for SFC to copy from)
To Run System File Checker -
Start - Run - (type)sfc /scannow <——notice the "space" between the "c" and the "/"
Keep us posted with your progress
Best Regards

OK.
It might help to Reboot into SAFE Mode - Administrator
Then repeat the steps listed above.
Failing that plan, you may need to consider a non-destructive Repair Installation via Recovery Console.
