Hi,
I'm running XP and my daughter has her own partition, and spends quite a bit of time playing Sim. Since I'm not always here to monitor her computer time, I'd like to know if there is a way to find out just how much time she spends online, and how much time she spends playing Sims online.
Is there a way to do one or both?
I have administrator access.
Thanks all.
I've found that the "best" parent-child method for the parent to monitor is via conversation with the child.
Beyond that, you can always look in History and Temporary Internet Files.
However, kids learn real quick about erasing history and temps.
Too much erasing is probably a heads-up for the Parent to be more watchful.
There are good "keylogger" type parental controls and even hardware solutions that "turn-off" power to the machine after arbitrarily set periods of time.
I don't like using such technical methods, but then I've never "had to".
You'll find your own straight forward way to discuss this with your child or a blend of conversation and backup with technical monitoring.
I believe that it's best to inform the other person about what monitors might be in place.
Kids, like anybody else, hate to find out that they have been spied on.
If you decide on using techical monitors, you could inform your daughter of your action and indicate that you will consider lightening up after good patterns are established and practices.
In parenting, it is always easier to "lighten-up" than to "tighten-up".
So put your measures into place now, rather than waiting until a problem has developed.
Best Regards
Thanks for the technical advice. I don't need parenting advice though. My relationship with my daughter is just fine. We have discussed guidelines for internet use, I want to make sure she is following them.
Initially, "siteadvisor" gave off a few "false-negatives", alerting on pages that are actually known-safe.
But it has been out for a few months now and is remarkably better.
Best Regards
