Please bear with me as not technically minded and forgive the general ramble in this first post. Background Until a couple of days ago the following was true Pentium 4 running windows XP Home (SP2 or possibly 3?). Connecting OK to broadand internet through Netgear DG834GT ADSL Modem/router using Netgear WG111T (108 MB/s) USB adapter. Just purchased 2nd computer (Intel Core 2 1.86 MHz) running Windws XP Media Centreedition (SP2). Bought Netgear WG111v2 (54 MB/s) wirelss adapter card - only one in shop at time. Went through set-up routine - had bit of problem on first installation as although showing getting good/excellent signal strength when connecting to the relevant network SSID was showing not connecting - as wasnt getting an ISP address (showing as 0.0.0.0). A couple of reboots later seemed to pick up correct address and hey presto - accessing internet OK. Problems Then all the trouble started (primarily because cant help fiddling) - I couldnt seem to be able to see each computers shared documents on the other computer. After pressing lots of buttons/changing options etc decided to try and uninstall the wireless adapters and start again (dont ask why!). 1. On the older computer tried th Remove Hardware option - this failed as couldnt find some sortof cfg file. So decided to delete the directory (OK) and then to root about in regedit removing various references to Netgear. However when I then tied to resintall the Netgear WG11T installation fails - and the remnants of whaever is on PC cannot uninstall. 2. Not content with this decided that would try and install the (newer) WG111v2 adapter in older machine - great the installation program went right through and system worked (saw the router and connected to internet). Therefore uninstalled the (newer) software/adaptor from New machine and installed the (older) WG111T software and adapter on Newer machine. After having a few hours of multiple re-installs this is now working (sees the router and connects to the internet). 3. However bad news - today have tried and failed to get the wireless connection on old machine (at first it was getting signal i.e. showing green but not picking up the I.P. address - now it stays red - not connecting. Note: during all these installs/reinstalls etc have double checked that connecting to same SSID, Security keys etc are same and other settings all OK Any ideas ? Has the amateur pruning in registry not helped!? Any way (short of reformat and reinstall ) to solve this - none of the restore to previous points works by the way., Thank you for your patience and help
