Hello,

I have been having problems for the last 5 days…I'm going crazy!!!! lol…

I have been having problems with my PC restarting constantly, usually when using IE, but once it starts the restarting, it usually will do it one right after the other. A couple of error reports to Microsoft stated I had Winlonon trojan\worm. I had AVg, Windows Oncare, Avast…(used all in safe mode)…now I am using Panda, which found Application\Restart….WINDOWS\System32\Tools\restart.exe…which I deleted. I found info on winlogon, somethings I read was if in lower case, it's a virus, upper case the real deal. Under processes (ctrl + alt +del) all seems okay today, but a couple of days ago, I did notice winlogon.exe in processes in lower case, but it is not there now. It is in uppercase.
Today it seems to be having a boot.INI problem when restarting. I just downloaded and ran Panda today, as well as HiJackThis. Could you check my log and see if there are problems?
Thanks!

Robin

Hi…1st time here, I guess my 1st topic title wasn't good enough, so I'm trying again….please help…I do not know what to delete, or even how to find the trojan or whatever it is that is hidden in my PC. I have tried a dozen different programs, none can find, much less get rid of whatever it is I have.

One error report I receive from Microsoft stated that I have winlogon trojan\worm…they have no info on their website about it, their malicious software tool can't find it, nor their live onecare….go figure…lol.

My IE crashes, my pc restarts and once it restarts it keeps restarting for a while, then I get pop ups stating my XP is invalid and to get genuine Microsoft software. I also gets error stating unknown device driver, which error reports from microsoft say is causing my system to crash….but I have not installed any drivers lately, or can find any corrupt ones.

Oh, and I am having a terrible time getting my system to boot in safe mode, it just keeps rebooting and won't stop until I load in Normal Mode, and sometimes even then it will keep rebooting.

Please, please, please help! I have been to Geek to Go website and followed their instructions on what to do before posting….no help…

Thanks,
Robin

RogueSheep,

Your last HJT log was somewhat unreadable and we need to have it in its own folder for backup pruposes.

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Go to where you currently have HJT installed and delete the whole folder.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis
  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure WordWrap is unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
  • Please use the [external image: Posted Image] Button and not the New Topic Button
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Please run this removal tool for Spyware Quake.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Removal Instructions:

Print out these instructions as we will need to close every window that is open later in the fix.

Download SmitRem.exe. When downloading smitRem.exe save it to your desktop.

[external image: Posted Image]

Double-click on the smitRem.exe file.

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on the Start button and the program will start extracting the files into a folder on your desktop called smitRem. When it is finished, click on the OK button. If you look on your desktop you will now see a folder called smitRem.

Download roguescanfix.exe , and save it to your desktop.
Double click roguescanfix.exe to install it.
Open the roguescanfix folder, and doubleclick run.bat.
Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again, this is normal.
Wait till te message "Completed script execution" appear, then click OK.
Click "Exit" to close BFU.
Click "OK" to start the SpywareQuake/Spyfalcon uninstaller, after that click "uninstall".

Next, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:

Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Close all open Windows.

Open the smitRem folder on your desktop

[external image: Posted Image]

Double-click on the RunThis.bat file, as shown by the arrow in the image above, to start the tool.

When the tool starts you will see a series of screens with information on them. Read each screen, and when you are finished reading it, simply press any key on your keyboard. After reading the various screens that appear, the program will start the removal process.

If there is an uninstaller present for an infection that smitRem removes it will start this uninstaller.

Simply click on the Uninstall button and allow the uninstaller to finish. When it is completed, it will close automatically and smitRem will prompt you to continue. Now you should press any key to continue.

When no more uninstallers can be found, the tool will continue. Your desktop will disappear and you will start seeing text scroll across the screen. This is normal and nothing to be concerned about. When smitRem has finished running it will automatically start the Disk Cleanup program

This program will remove all Temp, Temporary Internet Files, and empty your Recycle Bin in order to remove any leftover files installed by this infection. This process can take up to a few hours depending on your computer, so please be patient. When it is complete, it will close automatically and you will be back at your desktop.

When the tool is finished, it will will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or the partition where your operating system is installed. Examining that log should show that the infection was cleaned.

Reboot your computer back to normal mode.

Download this file from the link to your desktop.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection
