I have a problem that probably has an easy solution, i just don't know what it is…
I have Windows XP and ever since about a year ago, Quicktime has stopped opening.
Its one of those situations where you can double click on an icon on the desktop and the cursor changes to an hourglass. This indicates that something is happening, but Quicktime never opens.
I have tried opening Quicktime in every conceivable way possible. I have even reinstalled it.

Please help. I think this is one of those Windows bugs, because i have had other programs that refuse to open in similar situations.

Thanks
Nimrod
Hi Nimrod,

You've taken good steps, to uninstall/reinstall……. it just hasn't worked.

Check on this please:

QuickTime is not native compatible with Windows XP though it can be started manually to view Apple native format media. And QuickTime can display apple formated media on Website pages when using your IE or other browsers.

Where QuickTime starts causing trouble is if it has been allowed to become your "default viewer".
If it is "default viewer" then XP will call it when you click on "any media, whether or not it is an apple formatted media, and then fail.
The way to view such apple formated content is to "first" open QuickTime and then using QuickTimes internal functions to browse to the media that you wish to view.

open QuickTime Player from the Taskbar Start menu; from the Edit drop-down menu open QuickTime Preferences; uncheck the box next to "Play movies automatically"; click "MIME settings"; make sure all "MPEG - MPEG system, video, and audio files" boxes are unchecked. The objective is to change settings to override or prevent QuickTime from being the default media player.

The above considerations may or may not apply in your particular situation, so if your problem persists please let us know.

Keep us posted with your progress.

Best Regards
