I run Ad-Aware and Spybot programs regularly and recent scans have turned up clean, so I was surprised when I downloaded AVG yesterday and it turned up 18 problems. A google search of my infection objects pointed me to your forum and from reading some of the other posts I came to the conclusion that no two problems are alike. I hope someone here can help me clean my machine. Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to offer. Here is my HJT log:

Hello LmtdXposur

Sorry to keep you waiting..

Copy and Paste this post into a new text document or print it out for reference.

Step 1

Can I have a little bit more information on T-Schedule.exe

Please Navigate to C:\Program Files\T-Schedule\T-Schedule.exe
Right-Click on it and choose "Properties", then click on the "Version" tab at the top. Click on "Comments", "Company", "File Version", and "Internal Name"

Now Download the stand alone version of CWShredder from here.
Open CWShredder and click "I AGREE" Then Close.
Do not Scan with this yet!

Open CWShredder and click on 'Check for Updates'.
Download any new reference file and then close the program.

Download and install AboutBuster.
  • Double click the AboutBuster folder, then double click the AboutBuster.exe inside.
  • Click "Extract all" in the box that pops up, then "Next"
  • Choose the location you would like to install AboutBuster, such as My Documents.
  • Make sure "Show extracted files" is checked, then click "Finish".
Download Ewido Anti-Spyware
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

The program should launch automatically after installation. If not, double-click the desktop icon.

Deactivate the "Ewido Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

Now Update Ewido
click the "Update" icon from the main menu.
Then click the "Start Update" button.
When you receive the "Update successful" prompt, close Ewido.
Note: If you have any problems with the updater, you can Update Ewido Manually.
Do not Scan with this yet!

Step 2

Please Reboot your System into Safe Mode Shut down your system, then Restart your computer
as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8 from the menu select the option to enter Safe Mode

Open CWShredder that you downloaded earlier. Close all browser windows and click on the fix/next button.

Info on T-Schedule:

Comments = "Freeware - Have Fun!"
Legal Trademarks and Product Name = T-Schedule
File Version = 1.00
Internal Name = T-Schedule

This was some freeware that I thought I needed to produce pop up alarms at certain times of day. I haven't used it in a long time and will delete the program now before proceeding with the rest of your recommendations.

Also, while waiting for your advice I have not been idle… I have already downloaded and run ewido and deleted some other programs, but am sure there is still some level of infection. That said, I will now follow your plan exactly….

OK, complete. First, the CW Shredder scan came up clean. Second, during the Ewido "apply all actions" process, a window popped up that said it could not quarantine a certain file because it was embedded in system 32… and did I want to quarantine the whole archive? Not being sure, I chose "no". Third, after accepting the "do you want to download and run…" option on the panda site, the download went to about 60% on the status bar and stopped. I waited about 10 minutes for it to complete, then closed the window and tried two more times and each time it would display the same status bar at the 60% mark and say "0 seconds left" and not do anything else no matter how long I waited, so that scan result is missing from this reply. Here are the other logs you requested:

Hello ourwilly

I didn't find any of those five adware programs in "add/remove programs". Of the seven items you suggested I look for with windows explorer, I found and deleted numbers 1, 4, and 5. As you can see, the latest Ewido scan found those three again but in the recycle bin this time, which has since been emptied. Finally, except for three programs that must have been running during the last HJT scan (notebook, outlook express, and IE) the new HJT scan displayed the same result, which to my untrained eye means mission accomplished? As for how my system is running… it is running fine. Thank you very much for all your help. :-) I do have a question though… about two years back I DLed and installed SP2 and it created all sorts of problems so I did a system restore and went back to SP1 which works fine. In your opinion, should I try to install it again or just leave well enough alone?

Here are the new scan logs:
